Beer Description:
For our second Bahl Hornin’ release, we wanted to try out some new “extreme” hop varieties and create a beer completely different from Hop Ottin. We lowered the alcohol and dried out the finish to make sure the hops come forward. Bitterness was not the goal, but rather aroma and flavor. The trick was making a black beer that didn’t taste very roasty, which required some specialty huskless malts. Two pilot batches were brewed before we got it right.

This IPA is dominated by a pronounced hop aroma of pine and spruce, with subdued notes of fresh cut wood and special herbs. The flavor features a clean hop taste with a subtle, dry roasted malt touch in the background and a tangy, opulent mouthfeel. Nettied Madge Black IPA is everything a sumptuous IPA should be, with the added mystery that can only come from the rolling hills, secluded nooks, and deep redwood forests of the Anderson Valley.
