It is beer #2 in our "Blackwater Series" of original Imperial Stouts. The first in the Series was "Is", a dark and bitter Russian Imperial Stout. "Oat" is the follow up; an Oatmeal Stout with major alcohol volume and tons of body to back it up. The cloying character of the oats in this brew lends itself to a chewy and almost oily mouthfeel. ABV. is off the charts at about 12.5%. Note, that this is an all malt beer fermented with our house ale strain of yeast. Judicious hopping with Columbus and Chinook produce a hoppy aroma that mingles nicely with the chocolate and de-bittered black barley from Belgium.

Charcoal dark brown pour with a medium to short beige head, tons of lacing. Rich roasted goodness, great initial aroma and taste, toasted malts, light molasses, hint of brown sugar, earthy hops presence, smooth oats mouthfeel, light weak coffee in the end of a dry finish. Nice linger of roastiness. Tasty.

Pours extremely dark brown. Even with a vigorous pour it doesn’t produce much head. That’s ok because everything else is top notch. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and a bit boozy. Taste has it all. Sweet, roasted malt, every kind of chocolate , mild coffee and a hint of bitterness to finish. Easy drinking considering the abv. Velvety smooth full bodied mouthfeel. Great stouts in the Black Water series.

A jet black colored ale . Unfortunately the tan creamy textured head is small. But it does stay around a while, settling eventually into a thin soapy ringlet. The nose is faint roastiness. Fantastically thick, creamy well carbonated body. Distinctive alcohol bite. Flavors are far bolder than the nose. Big roastiness, sweet molassess and a hint of chocolate bitterness. Well crafted as I’ve come to expect from Southern Tier.

Aroma is strong and smoky with an overtone of molasses and a hint of quality coffee. It pours a rich opaque sable, like any good stout, with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled tan head that leaves some substantial, if not persistent, lacing. Flavor is fabulous - fine roast coffee, sweet chocolate, molasses, and a hint of hops. The sweetness is not cloying or overpowering, and the touch of hop bitterness balances this nicely. Lively texture is quite fizzy and leaves behind a good tingle, along with molasses sweetness and a little hop bitterness.

this batch at 11%. pours black with practically zero head. thick stuff. super smooth, and though it's heavy, no hint of being quite so strong. aroma and flavor of molasses, a touch of hops, cocoa. chocolate & a touch of ripe fruit in there as well. a "no frills" stout that happens to be pretty darn great.

Another beer that has recently made it's way into the Toronto region. A dark brown beer, with a light tan head. maybe a half inch in thickness. The aroma was roasted coffee with some subtle hints of porridge. The flavour was very bitter with chocolate, coffee, and licorice in the mix.

Pours a dark brown colour with a reddish tint near the bottom. HEad is very small, very little carbonation in this beer. Taste is pleasent, rich with dark roasted malts and coffee beans. Aroma is strong of dark fruits, black licorice adn toffee.

Pours with a black body topped by a thin, tan head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a creamy note, some bitter hops and a touch of vanilla. Full bodied, smooth and creamy.

Pours a very dark brown, almost opaque black. The aroma has a nice roastiness and the flavor is a little on the sweet side, but balanced nicely by bitter malts and some mild hoppiness.
