2101 Walkerville Brewery Rob Roy Scotch Ale Canada Scottish Ale 3.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

October 12, 2018
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
473ml can
7.0% ABV
$3.25
The date code on the can is the totally obvious 8253. The beer pours a beautiful translucent dark cherry red with a creamy half inch tan coloured cap that lingers a while. The aroma is light toffee and molasses with hints of grains and musty hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. On the thin side for a Scotch ale. The flavour is like the mouthfeel in that it is weak on flavour. Not a lot of sweetness coming from the molasses/toffee notes, and not a lot of bitterness from hop notes. The alcohol is well hidden though, that’s a plus. Look and smells great, but the flavour was a letdown for me.

2102 Brock Street Scotch Ale Canada Scottish Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

473ml can
7.0% ABV
Canned On: December 5, 2021
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada - Sobey's Plaza)
March 4, 2022
$3.95
The beer pours a translucent dark cherry red colour with a thin creamy light tan coloured cap that lasts several minutes. The aroma is roasted malt, molasses, and some floral hops in the background. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet up front with notes of molasses and roasted malt, and finishes with a sharp bitter hop kick. This is a style that more Ontario brewers need to get behind, because when done well like this one, it’s one enjoyable style.

2104 Belhaven 90 Shilling (90 /_) Wee Heavy Ale United Kingdom Scottish Ale 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

330ml bottle
4.80% ABV
Best Before: January 20, 2020
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
November 23, 2018
$2.66
Part of the 2018 Belhaven Craft Christmas 6-Pack. The beer pours a dark brown colour with a fluffy off-white head that is about 1cm thick. The aroma is funky yeast, roasted malt, and caramel. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet caramel malt, some molasses notes, which I expect in a 90 Shilling / Scotch Ale, and a bitter hoppishness in the finish. A pleasant beer.

2105 Belhaven Scottish Ale (5.2%) United Kingdom Scottish Ale 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330ml bottle
5.20% ABV
Best Before: October 20, 2019
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
December 8, 2018
$2.66
Part of the 2018 Belhaven Craft Christmas 6-Pack. The beer pours a beautiful translucent dark copper colour with a thin film for a head. The aroma is toasted malts, light caramel, floral hops, and some weak spiciness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and is slightly creamy. The flavour is light sweet caramel, cereal grains, a little yeastiness and a nice bitter hop finish. This is quite good for a ‘Scottish’ ale.

2106 Innis & Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer United Kingdom Scottish Ale 3.7

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

July 5, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
330ml bottle
6.60% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$2.35
It was a nice pretty clear bottle. The beer poured a coppery red colour into the glass with a 1 finger creamy white head that dissipated quickly to leave a little trace on top. The smell was rather foul to say the least....almost sour. The mouthfeel is crisp and slightly thick with an idea level of carbonation. The taste is good with some hints of malt and fruit (although I can't place the sweetness off-hand).
