Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 650ml bottle
5.0% ABV
I tried this beer on November 18, 2011 after purchasing from the Queen's Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a solid coca-cola colour with brown hues and a thin tan head. The aroma was citrusy hops, roasted malt, and some metallic notes. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation (considering that many people claim to have flat bottles - mine was pretty good for carbonation). The flavour is citrusy hops, grapefruit, and roasted malt character and nuts. |

A very nice beer, too bad it’s a seasonal, and probably a one-off because this would be a great year round Black IPA. |

The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, weak grapefruit, and grassy notes. The mouthfeel is full bodied, with average carbonation. The flavour is coffee, chocolate milk, and roasted malt. This is a decent porter or stout, but aside from a faint grapefruit aroma, and maybe some citrus peel flavour (both which can be found in overhopped stouts and porters) there is nothing to suggest this is a black IPA. NOTHING! |

The aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and dish soap. I don’t detect any citrus, coconut, or rhubarb. So, not a typical Black IPA. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is more akin to a thin porter/stout as I’m not getting a whole ot of the rhubarb or coconut in this. This isn’t a black IPA to my mind, and not even a fruited stout/porter. Not something I would want to drink regularly. |
