1176 | Forked River Oater Limits | Canada | Oatmeal Stout | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 12 oz draught
7.0% ABV
C'est What? (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
February 28, 2020
$7.50
\ The beer pours a translucent dark coca-cola colour with foamy brown head which doesn't lace very well. The aroma was roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour was chalky roasted malt, dark chocolate, and weak coffee notes. Could have been better. |

1177 | Insel-Brauerei Baltic Ale | Germany | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500ml bottle
7.5% ABV
Best Before: December 31m 2021
LCBO Outlet # 010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Summerhill)
March 18, 2020
$3.70
The beer pours a light golden colour, translucent, with polenty of effervescence leading to a frothy snow white head. The aroma is very grainy and yeasty with some hints of herbal hops. Nothing in the aroma screams “Belgian”. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. So, while the aroma doesn’t say Belgian, the flavour is reminiscent of a light Belgian tripel. A sweet malt start, followed by light Belgian spiciness, and the definite flavour of a Belgian yeast. It’s a pretty decent beer, but it is still missing that ‘something’ |

1178 | Molson Black Ice | Canada | Strong Lager | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 341ml bottles
6.10% ABV
Bottling Date: Unknown
Unknown Gas Bar (Memphis, Tennessee, USA)
February 15, 1994
$1.61
A very smooth beer with almost no aftertaste. This beer pours a nice light golden colour with a small white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is nice and earthy and very pleasant to the nose. The mouthfeel is satiny with light carbonation. The taste is what really wins me over. The taste is crisp and clean, and smooth. This use to be one of my favourite wintertime beers. |

1179 | Fosters Lager | Australia | Pale Lager | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 September 22, 1987
Gift
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Brewed in Canada by the Carling O'Keefe Brewing Company
As Paul Hogan used to call it, 'The Golden Throat Charmer' and 'Australian for Beeya'.

First off, this tastes best very cold. This pours a beautiful golden colour with an offwhite head that sticks around. It has a nice hoppy aroma that I find distinctive. It dances on the tongue with some mild carbonation that isn't overpowering that winds into a crisp lager-y feel. The taste is crisp and clean with some malty tones and tastes great (and filling). It does have one hell of an aftertaste that takes some getting used to. This was my beer of choice in the late 80s and early 90s, and I still visit it every now and then (like this afternoon).

When I originally tried this it was brewed in Canada by Carling O'Keefe Brewing Company under license from Elder's Brewery in Australia. Elders eventually gave a huge sum of money to Molson Brewing Company to buy Carling O'Keefe (with some money from the Miller Brewing Company). When I did my Ph.D in Tennessee, I saw Foster's in the supermarket..............it was brewed by Molson in Canada (and distributed in Reston, Virginia). |

1180 | Löwenbräu Original / Lowenbrau Original | Germany | Helles / Dortmunder | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 September 29, 1988
Brewer’s Retail (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – Municipal Street)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$1.10
This used to be one of my favourite beers. This beer pours a nice translucent golden colour with a bubbly white head that dissipates slowly. The aroma is flavourful with a floral tinge to it . The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour has grassy and malty tones, and more importantly, has some bite to it which is something I like in a beer. This is a beer I would definitely recommend to friends |

1181 | Kilkenny Irish Ale | Ireland | Irish Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 May 1, 1990
Woolwich Arms, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – 176 Woolwich Street)
592ml draught
4.30%
$2.25
Another British ale that just didn't please my palate (yet my friends tell me that someday, my ale will come!). This beer has a darker colour than I normally like (I prefer golden nectars) and a weak aroma. It went down very smooth however. It felt thick in the mouth, very little carbonation. The flavour was alright, very malty.
March 3, 2008
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
440ml can
4.30% ABV
Now that I am several months into my beer hobby, I have decided to re-rate some beers that I didn't care for the first time around. The beer poured a beautiful translucent red colour with a thick creamy off-white head. The aroma is still very weak with no discernable odours. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and creamy. The flavour was roasted malt, a little nutty, and a little subtle hoppiness on the back of the tongue. This beer goes down very smoothly (as do a lot of British beers). |

It had a strong unmistakably strawberry aroma that captured me right away. It was a dark red in the glass. The mouthfeel was very champagne like. The taste was very good. A truly enjoyable beer. |

1183 | Delirium Tremens | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 June 21, 2007 The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
330ml bottle
8.70% ABV
$10.60
The aroma was malty and the beer was a golden colour. The first mouthfeel provided a soapy taste to it. Future tastes provided less soap and a clove/nutmeg taste. Overall I was pleasantly surprised as the higher alcohol content wasn't as evident as I thought it would be. |

1185 | Zlatý Bažant / Zlaty Golden Pheasant | Slovakia | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 July 25, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
500ml bottle
5.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$2.35
The beer poured a translucent gold colour, darker than most North American lagers. The head was quite large and quite dense but disappeared quickly leaving a little lacing on the side. The aroma is hoppy with some yeasty tinges. The mouthfeel is slightly thick with ample carbonation and medium-bodied. The taste is very much pilsener like, but not as good as some of the common Czech Pilseners in my opinion. |

1186 | Bells Cherry Stout | United States | Fruit Stout | 3.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 July 27, 2007
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada - 18 King Street East)
355ml bottle
7.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$14.00
I bought this on the waitress' suggestion (should I get this or Unibroue's Trois Pistoles). It poured coca-cola black into a tulip glass with absolutely no head. The aroma was that of coffee and cherries. The mouthfeel was crisp and full-bodied with a medium level of carbonation. The taste started off good with chocolate and cherries but by the end, it was so tart on the back of the tongue, it was all I could do to finish. |

It poured a hazy gold colour with a small head into the glass. The bottle described the beer as 'double-hopped' but this was not detected in the aroma to any extent. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was slightly hoppy and mild.
Both the appearance and taste of this beer was more reminiscent of wheat beers than a Czech Style Pilsener. |
