250ml bottle
4.3% ABV

Two things pop out at me right away. The label says "The fruity pink beer" and it contains "aspartame". So, a fruity pink diet beer?

I tried this 'beer' on May 29, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a reddish pink colour with a thin white head that stuck around. The aroma was sour raspberries and grainy malt. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and highly carbonated. The flavour was sugary sweet. It tasted very good, but not beer-like. More like what Canadians call a 'Cooler'

750ml bottle
11.5% ABV
2006 Year
Smokeless Joe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
December 30, 2008
The beer poured a translucent pale brown with a bubbly, effervescent head that was fed by a constant stream of effervescence in the Deus flute. The aroma was earthy and yeasty with some citrusy hints in the mix. The mouthfeel was very light, and highly carbonated. The flavour was very malty and yeasty. No hint of alcohol in the taste, but I felt it in the head. Being 11.5%, I was expecting a far sweeter taste but was pleasantly surprised. I have to admit, at $51.95 before taxes, I would have hoped for elixer of the Gods.

355ml bottle
5.3% ABV
I tried this beer on November 19, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a clouded golden-orange into the glass with almost no head whatsoever. Effervescence was on display. The aroma was sour, and musty. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, with medium-carbonation....although that may have been lost in the pucker. The flavour was malty with some possible green apple hints. Very tart. Definitely worth trying.

330ml bottle
3.5% ABV
I tried this beer on September 2, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The bottle looked and felt more like a 250ml bottle than a 330ml bottle. The beer poured a hazy golden pink colour with a fizzy short-lived head. The aroma was very fruity with mango very apparent. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, with medium-high carbonation. The flavour was sweet in a fruity sense (as opposed to the artificial sweetness in a Wittekerke Rose) with a little malt in the taste.

After reading the plethora of reviews from Canadian based beerpals, one has to wonder if it's available stateside (not that they're missing anything).

June 25, 2009
Bar Volo (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 587 Yonge Street)
330ml bottle
10.2% ABV
$41.04
Several Toronto beer bars have banded together to get several cases and sell it - and I grabbed the chance. The beer poured an opaque dark brown with an off white head...not near as dark as the St. Bernardus or Rochefort quads. The aroma knocked my socks off....fresh figs and plums, with warm yeast and sweet malt. More than satisfying. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, with mild carbonation - yet a bit thinner than other quads. The flavour again was quite complex and full of flavours when compared to St. Bernardus, and didn't have the alcohol taste and feel I get with the Rochefort. The bitter aftertaste was even pleasant after the sweet malt and fruit tones. On aroma and taste alone, this is the best beer I have ever had. I'm knocking off points for appearance and mouthfeel as the beer was 'lighter' than I was expecting.

The beer poured a cloudy gold colour with a very thin white head. The aroma was sour cherries and apples with a little bit of malt. The mouthfeel was dry, very tart, highly carbonated, and medium bodied. The flavour was tart apples, and some graininess. Very enjoyable.
