355ml bottle
5.2% ABV
I tried this beer on December 18, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark brown, almost black colour with a thin white head. The aroma was weak, but consisted of roasted malt and licorice. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was bitter coffee, smoked wood, licorice, and roasted malt...with a subtle dryness to it.

2178 Tree Black Tree Dark Ale Canada Porter 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330ml
5.0% ABV
This is a beer for a good cause...reforestation. And for a charity beer, it's not bad. Had it at a friend's house after he brought back a case from out west. It's a golden red, clear, with a creamy head. The aroma is dark malt, some hops, and some caramel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, and medium carbonation. The flavour is reminiscent of an English Pale Ale more than a porter with a less roasted malt profile than I would have expected.

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

650ml bottle
10.0% ABV
I tried this beer on November 27, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured an opaque brownish-black with a thin light-brown head. The aroma was roasted malt, vanilla, butterscotch, and alcohol (definitely noticeable). The mouthfeel was full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, butterscotch, a bitter finish...and alcohol.

Without the alcohol aroma or taste, this beer would have scored higher. It's not a lot, but it was definitely noticeable in my sample.

330ml bottle
8.2% Abv
Smokeless Joe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
November 5, 2009
$10.95
It poured a golden orange colour into the glass with a fluffy white head that dissipated very quickly leaving almost no foam on the top. Not a great beer by any stretch.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 6

330ml bottle
3.5% ABV
I tried this beer on September 2, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The bottle looked and felt more like a 250ml bottle than a 330ml bottle. The beer poured a hazy golden pink colour with a fizzy short-lived head. The aroma was very fruity with mango very apparent. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, with medium-high carbonation. The flavour was sweet in a fruity sense (as opposed to the artificial sweetness in a Wittekerke Rose) with a little malt in the taste.

After reading the plethora of reviews from Canadian based beerpals, one has to wonder if it's available stateside (not that they're missing anything).
