926 | Hop City Cheat Day Black Forest Porter | Canada | Porter | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.7% ABV<bv> Canned On:
LCBO Outlet #010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Summerhill)
October 23, 2019
$3.25
The beer pours a coca-cola colour with a creamy light brown cap, maybe an inch and a half of cap. Chocolate is the aroma of the day with hints of roasted nuts, coffee, and vanilla rounding out the nose. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour…..I’m not a fan of. While I don’t get any cherry in the aroma, I definitely get tart cherries in the flavour, and they dominate the chocolate and mocha notes in the background. I love black forest cake. I do not love this beer however. |

The aroma is alcohol, honey, alcohol, yeast, more alcohol, some light grains, and even more alcohol. The switch from 10% to 11% isn’t going well in my opinion. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with below average carbonation. The flavour is all alcohol, with some hints of dark fruit sweetness. This takes me back to the first couple of barleywines I had, since then they’ve only gotten better but this will scare me off the style for a while. |
