26 | Ace Hill Winter Radler | Canada | Fruit Beer | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 March 13, 2019
LCBO Outlet #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
473ml can
3.0% ABv
Canned On: November 29, 2018
$3.15
The beer pours a hazy orange colour, reminiscent of C-Plus Orange Soda from the 1980s, with a loose foamy light tan coloured head which doesn’t last. The aroma is dishsoap, oranges, weak herbal hops, and ginger. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, almost powdery, with below average carbonation, which is expected in a radler. You can taste both the fruit and ginger in the flavour, which is rather unique. Again, as a ‘drink’, I would try this again based on flavour alone, but still looking for more beer quality. |

The cap is light brown in colour, creamy, and about 2cm think. The aroma is roasted nuts, soy sauce, nuts, and oatmeal, and maybe a whiff of alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is dominated by roasted malt and alcohol with hints of leather/charred wood, coffee, nuts, and dark chocolate. Sadly the leathery taste and the alcohol being so noticeable kill this beer. |

There is definitely the citrusy notes of the cascade hops, as well as some weak caramel notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour doesn’t live up to the aroma. Some weak hoppy grapefruit notes mixed in with the infamous dishsoap notes. Better than their flagship IPA, but still ’crafty’ as opposed to ’craft’ |

The aroma is tropical fruit/papaya and caramel. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with below average carbonation. Flavour is papaya/pineapple and some grains with a hint of caramel. I was expecting more tropical juiciness, which may have been a reach for a macro brewer. |

There was very little effervescence. The aroma was weak wheat malt, and some citrus (but that may have been the small chunk of orange affixed to the rim of the glass). The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with mild carbonation. The flavour was sweet wheat malt, some peppery spiciness, and finished with a mild bitterness. I tried the beer because it was the only thing in the restaurant I hadn’t tried. I may never try it again |
