1 Three Floyds Dark Lord Imperial Stout United States Imperial Stout 3.8

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

I'm going to have to agree with the recent rating trend for this beer, or, at least the '07 vintage. Coffee and chocolate in the aroma with a bit of earthiness. Pours absymal black with a small touch of head. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, somewhat coating and flat. Roasty and lightly caramel flavor, some hops, molasses and quite a bit of alcoholic heat, good flavors, but not well integrated. A nice Imperial Stout, but the Dark Lord still reports to the Yeti as far as I'm concerned.

2 Stone 8th Anniversary Ale United States Strong Ale 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Toasty and mildy nutty and roasty aroma, very grainy with a bit of wood. Dull brown with a bit of haze and a wisp of foam. Surprisingly well attenuated and not sticky mouthfeel with nice, soft carbonation. Nice, big brown ale flavor, some alcohol heat, a bit of cocoa, nuttiness and lots of toasty malt. A good offering from Stone that has cellared quite well.

3 Mule Kick Oatmeal Stout United States Oatmeal Stout 2.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

This is really more of a fusion between a sweet/oatmeal stout, schwarzbier and a Carnagie style Baltic Porter. It has lots of AB house yeast character matched with cocoa, coffee and sugary sweetness. Slightly sharp carbonation and lacking body, thin enough to put it into Brown Porter if not Dark Mild territory with its watery mouthfeel. Way to over-mash, AB. Still, its not entirely bad, just don't go in expecting Schlafly Oatmeal Stout or Rogue Shakespeare Stout.

4 Square One Anniversary Ale United States Strong Ale 3.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Well played, Square One, well played. Hoppy and fruity aroma with a touch of smoky/roasty notes. Dark brown with fleeting eggshell foam. Nice hoppy flavor, richly malty, but a bit too sweet for me, seems under attenuated. A good brew.

5 Rogue Monk Madness United States Strong Ale 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Too hoppy to be an IPA, too malty to be a DIPA, but not quite indulgent enough for a Barleywine...American Strong Ale it is! Hoppy, very hoppy aroma with plenty of supporting malt. Pours medium copper with a nice dollop of carbon dioxide which provides a pleasant mouthfeel. Tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, and other citrus with a touch of piney hops and biscuity, toasty malt. A winner from Rogue. Monks may have nothing to do with it, but so what.

6 Kuhnhenn Bourbon Barrel Barleywine United States American Barleywine 4.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

2004 Vintage. Wow! the aroma is unreal, malty with toast, caramel, cocoa, raisins, fig newtons, vanilla, wood, leather, alcohol, bourbon, you can tell this is powerful stuff. Pours a rich copper color with basically no head. Rich and full mouthfeel, with very soft carbonation and significant stickiness. The flavor full reflects the aroma with other very ripe fruits peeking through, along with some rumminess. One helluva powerful brew, a bit unbalanced towards the malt for an American Barleywine, but its hard to recognized such a hedonistic beverage, as this is over top in the most indulgent of styles.

7 St. Louis Premium Faro Belgium Faro 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

What an odd beer. It pours with a big fizz and lots of gas over a golden body. Very tingly mouthfeel with loads of CO2. The flavor and aroma are very remniscent of 7UP.

8 Jolly Pumpkin Perseguidor United States Belgian Ale 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Oaky, bretty, funky, fruity and caramelly aroma. Deep copper and hazy with some foam and lace. Very rich woody, fruity flavor, raisins, figs, vanilla and toffee. Quite the Belgian-American treat from JP.

9 Jolly Pumpkin Fuego Del Otono United States Belgian Ale 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

Spicy and nutty aromatics mingle with malty toastiness. Light brown pour with eggshell head. Full carbonation upon the pour, but it settles in with a few minutes becoming gentler on the palate. Mild nuttiness coming through with a touch of tannin, spicy phenolics and some dark fruit, a bit of coconut and some nice Belgian funk to top it all off.

10 Lost Abbey Avant Garde Ale United States Biere de Garde 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Cool, Biere de Garde, I love it. Bready, grainy aroma, some 'cellar' or 'corked' character or woodiness, mild, spicy hops and it all comes through in the flavor with a bit of clean fruitiness. Not too sweet, but with a bit of caramel flavor.

Spicy, herbal and tangy aroma. Creamy head, hazy. Well carbonated and smooth mouthfeel. Grainy and slightly funky flavor, fruity and herbal. A very nice, balanced saison.

12 Port Brewing Wipeout IPA United States IPA 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Full, hoppy aroma, citrus, resinous, piney, herbal, very nice. Copper with a little stand of foam. A bit sticky mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. Like so many California ales, its a bit sweet for my tastes, however the hop flavor is very good. Thanks, Pizza Port, I can't wait to get some fresher Wipeout IPA, its good even on the downslope.

13 Russian River Temptation United States Belgian Strong Ale 4.6

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9

Acidic, fruity aroma, apricot, peach, pineapple and some funk. Bright gold, some haze and a stable, big foam. Very crisp and refreshing mouthfeel, ample but not sharp carbonation. The flavor is unbeatable. I get apricot, peach, pineapple, chardonnay, a bit of oak, lots of bretty funk, tannins and lots of tartness. This is one helluva sour Belgian ale, way to live up to the hype, Vinnie.

14 Stone 10th Anniversary IPA United States Imperial IPA 4.3

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9

American hop aroma with a bit of graininess. Light golden color, nice arrangement of foam. Smooth and soft mouthfeel, leaves you thirsty for more. Some malty sweetness backs a very intensely American floral like hop flavor. Excellent DIPA hop centric flavor with enough malt to counter, great job, Stone.

15 Odell Imperial Stout United States Imperial Stout 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

This is not an Imperial Stout. This is a Foreign Extra Stout/Irish Extra Stout, although more of the scaled down Imperial version, rather than the bigger Irish type. Chocolately and roasty, slightly minerally, mild earthy hops, a bit watery for a big beer, but drinkable. A good Extra Stout, but this is no Imperial.

16 Schlafly Northern English Brown Ale United States Brown Ale 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

An excellent beer, mildly roasty and chocolately, toasty malt flavor, some caramelly/toffee character, very drinkable and smooth. I'm quite impressed with Brennan's first recipe for Schlafly. Well played, I'll miss this one.

17 North Coast Brother Thelonious United States Belgian Strong Ale 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Bits of dark fruit, toasty malt, spicy phenolics and the like, yet mild and well integrated. Brown body, nice Belgian lace and foaming. Well carbonated and smooth, but a bit sticky. Good fruity profile and malt flavors, but a bit too sweet. A nice brew, not as digestible as PranQster, but still pretty impressive.

18 Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA United States Imperial IPA 4.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

Wow...this did a good job of living up to the hype. I shared this bomber with a couple of homebrewing buddies after we finished up a cereal mashed Witbier. Extremely richly hoppy aroma. Lots of citrus, resinous and downright hoppiness, kind of like the DIPA of mine in secondary. Pours golden with a tiny bit of foam which abandons ship in a jiffy, I even found a couple of hop particles in my glass...yipee! Full and smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation but just a bit sticky. Amazing, rich and full American hop character. Big, caramelly malt backing, very 'California', but not to the extreme American Barleywine levels. This is one very fine DIPA, I have to admit.

19 Three Floyds Pride & Joy Mild Ale United States Amber Ale 3.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

What a shock...their mild is really not much of a mild at all. Which isn't to say its a bad beer. It is a balanced BPA/BIPA malty and hoppy, mildly sweet and citrusy/earthy/spicy hops in balance with some malt sweetness, very drinkable.

20 Samuel Adams Long Shot Old Ale United States Old Ale 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

I hope I'm not showing big beer bias, but this one was strides beyond the other two. Full, malty and minerally aroma, toasty and almost wee heavy-like. Deep brown with a small cap of beige head. Smooth and warming mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Full and malty, like a lighter bodied wee heavy, some earthy hops for balance. This is a good one and I see some age helping, as well.

21 Samuel Adams Long Shot Dortmunder Style Export United States Helles / Dortmunder 2.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Grainy and buttery aroma. Nice golden color, stable head and lacing. Refreshing, somewhat slick mouthfeel, likely from the diacetyl. Diacteyl everywhere, not a bomb, but plenty to distract from the underlying beer, which isn't bad, grainy and touched with hops. It would have been pretty good until it all went wrong.

22 Samuel Adams Long Shot Boysenberry Wheat United States Fruit Beer 2.6

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5

Smells of grainy wheat and fake fruit. Light straw color, collapsing head. Watery in the mouth, some carbonation. I hate the fake fruit flavor, extracts just rub me the wrong way 95% of the time, and this was one of 'em, medicinal and flat. I'll pass on this one.

23 Samuel Adams Honey Porter United States Porter 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 6

The underlying porter is nice, I can tell that much. Chocolately, minerally and malty aroma, some earth hops and honey come through. Dark brown with a bit of foam. Nice full and coating mouthfeel, soft carbonation, smooth finish. The honey is overpowering, which is significant with a porter, and way too sweet, if it had been added for fermentation, this beer would be better. A nice beer ruined by excessive sweetness.

24 Alandale Winter Lager United States Bock 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

A very interesting winter seasonal, from Alandale. Slightly dark traditional Bock base beer with Vanguard and Cascade hop character apparent and well balanced with the malty base. The Vanguard dovetails between the German beer base and the resinous Cascades, which give it a Christmas-y feel. Well done.

25 Alandale Vienna Lager United States Vienna / Amber Lager 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Alandale seems to be hitting the German Styles pretty well, not unlike Morgan Street. Nice malt oriented balance, some spicy hops, clean fermentation character, just what this toasty malty beer should be, refreshing and elegant.
