Previously known as Compania de Bere Romania. Bought by SABMiller and changed name to Ursus Breweries in 2005. Ursus Breweries, part of SABMiller PLC group , is one of the largest global brewers. The company is headquartered in Bucharest and has three breweries in Timisoara, Brasov and Buzau. Ursus Breweries brands are URSUS Timisoreana Ciucas Oak, Azuga, Redd's, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell and Miller. On the brands, that one of the three beers consumed by the Romans is a brand Ursus Breweries says a lot about the quality of our beers and about the appreciation they enjoy from consumers. Ursus is the symbol of our local roots, representing our Romanian heritage, but also the name of one of the brands that make up the portfolio. Breweries shows the company's international status as part of one of the largest brewers in the world, SABMiller. SABMiller in Romania history begins in 1996 when South African Breweries acquired Eagle Brasov. A year later, South African Breweries and the URSUS buy Pitber Pitesti SA Cluj-Napoca. In 2001, URSUS SA buys majority stake of Beer Timisoreana SA. Since 2002, URSUS SA and Timisoreana SA merged into a single integrated company, namely SA Compania de Bere Romania. In 2004, SABMiller acquired a majority stake of Aurora Brasov, a company that will merge in the same year Bere Romania SA Company A year later, in 2005, the new name of SABMiller's operations in Romania is Ursus Breweries. Ursus Breweries has a diversified portfolio of international brands and Romanian: Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell, Miller Genuine Draft (MGD, Grolsch, Ursus, Redd's, Timisoreana Ciucas Oak, Azuga. Currently, Ursus Breweries owns four breweries and approximately 1,700 employees. The company operates through its headquarters in the Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Buzau, Brasov and Bucharest.
