Welcome to the Terre Haute Brewing Co. Museum & Tap Room. Throughout the brewery you see advertisement for Champagne Velvet Beer, "The Beer with the Million Dollar Flavor". This was the beer that, at the brewery's peak in the 1940's and 50's, produced over one million five hundred thousand barrels per year and employed nine-hundred people. Champagne Velvet was first patented in 1902. At the close of he Terre Haute Brewing Co. in 1958 trademarks changed hands until we purchased them in August 1999 from Pabst Brewing Co. bringing Champagne Velvet back home to Terre Haute. We incorporated the Terre Haute Brewing Co. again and were fortunate to locate the original 1901 Pilsener recipe for C.V. The Terre Haute Brewing officially reopened November 17, 2000, producing the beer that is "Sparkling as Champagne and Smooth as Velvet". The legacy of the Terre Haute Brewing Co. would be truly remarkable if it began in 1901. The history however can be dated to this very building in the exact room we have placed our modest kraft brewery. We can document that the Terre Haute Brewery operated in 1837 in the lower level of this building. Mathias Mogger and Earnest Bleemel also operated in this space before 1874. We have no illusions of ever growing to employ nine hundred people, although our current staff of nine certainly has their hands full. Our goal is simply to bring the brewery full circle to its humble beginning, reproduce a historic Kraft beer and serve C.V. one beer at a time. -Terre Haute Brewing Co.
