Carlsberg's story in Israel begins at the end of 1991. The "Central Bottling Company Ltd." (Coca Cola Israel) signed an agreement with Carlsberg International A/S granting it exclusive rights to distribute Carlsberg and Tuborg brands and products in Israel as well as the right to build a modern beer brewery for the production of all beer products required for the Israeli market. At the beginning of 1992 "Israel Beer Breweries Ltd." (Carlsberg Israel) entered the Israeli market with extensive marketing activities. In the beginning of 1994 Carlsberg Israel began construction of a brewery in Ashkelon. After a record time of only thirteen months the brewery was completed. In early 1995 Carlsberg Israel inaugurated its new brewery and began producing Carlsberg and Tuborg. The brewery was built with an initial investment of 32 million dollars. During the next five years several additional investments significantly increased Carlsberg Israel's production capabilities and product diversity. Investments in Carlsberg Israel's brewery are one of the largest investments ever to be invested in the Israeli food and beverage industry. Using the best European know-how and expertise, a team of Israeli engineers together with experts from Carlsberg International designed and built a modern brewery with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. All production lines and control systems are computerized and automatic. Carlsberg Israel uses the same qualitative raw materials as Carlsberg International's and other Carlsberg breweries around the world. Carlsberg Israel imports its raw materials only from sources authorized by Carlsberg International A/S. Carlsberg Israel has its own tasting panel which meets regularly to test the manufactured beer. The brewery is equipped with modern quality control system. From the outset, Carlsberg Israel's brewery has been manufacturing beer according to ISO9000, ISO14000 and Israeli standard 18000 and is one of the few plants in Israel with a combined system. Once the HACCP system was installed, Carlsberg Israel received the GMP production standard certification form the Israeli ministry of health. As a result, Carlsberg Israel's products are of premium quality and continuously receive citations from Carlsberg International's Quality Control Division, one of the strictest beer quality control divisions in the world. Carlsberg Israel revolutionized the draught beer market; the Israeli market, which until then had a poor array of products and dispensing equipment, had entered a new era. Carlsberg Israel's new and state-of-the-art draught system with modern cooling installations marked the beginning of draught distribution In Israel. Carlsberg Israel's pioneering and innovation brought first-rate European beer to prestigious pubs, bars and restaurants. In May 1996 Carlsberg Israel became the exclusive franchiser of the unique Irish beer Guinness. Carlsberg Israel's currently produces Carlsberg, Tuborg and Malty and imports Leffe, Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, Guinness, Kilkenney and Weihenstephan. Carlsberg Israel's brewery regularly wins five beauty stars awarded by the "Council for Beautiful Israel". In 1997 the brewery received the "Ministry of the Environment and Manufacturers Association of Israel" flag and in 2000 won the "National Beauty" flag and the "Ministry of Environment" flag. The brewery has a unique and exceptional visitor center with daily guided tours and product sampling. The visitor center also includes a beer history museum.
