Built in 1905, Franklin’s old jail housed the Williamson County sheriff and his family as well as prisoners. Once its public service ended it sheltered such businesses as an architectural firm and a restaurant. Then came the two Freds. Fred Minderman of Arrington Vineyards partnered with talented brewer Fred Scheer, who many Nashville beer lovers will recognize from Bosco’s, and Battle Ground Brewery opened on December 6, 2009. An old jail may sound cold and barren, but the interior of BGB is exactly the opposite, full of red brick walls, warm wood floors and comfy leather furniture. You’ll even find a fireplace or two. We’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and their menu varies for each throughout the day, with emphasis on the usual sort of brewpub food flavored with the house beers. The bar is located upstairs, and the beer selections are all BGB private label.
