Hertog Jan Grand Prestige

Shared 300 ml bottle at local tasting, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 10%. Very dark brown colour, large beige head. Strong malty aroma, notes of molasses and brown kandij sugar, some alcohol, Lovely and well balanced flavour, malty but not too sweet, brown kandij sugar and oak, notes of dark dried fruits, some mild spicy notes.

Darker yellow clear beer with fading foam head. Not sure what the Grand in the name stands for. Lots of fruity aroma's present, appreciated the alcohol content. No lasting taste. (Rotterdam 201111)

300 ml capped bottle. Poured a clear oak-burgundy coloured BSA with a generous two fingers creamy and dense tan foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, caramel, wood, sourish fruits, apples, berries, syrupy and vinous notes. The flavour is roasted malts, heavy caramel, corked and wood presence, fruity, plums, pears, raisins, spicy, hints of licorice and pepper. The moutfeel is crispy, sparkling, thick and a bit sticky. This full bodied BSA has a long malty finish combined with a high alcoholic warming sensation and the presence, so my feeling, of rum (!). An ( too ) oriented BSA on the alcoholic way.

Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is a thick dark beer with many fruity aroma's and a bit spicey as well. It gives a nice light brown foam head that last pretty long. Nice beer to enjoy with appreciating company.

Bottled. Deep ruby red colour, small beige head. Aroma is toffee, licorice and some hints of alcohol. Flavour is alcohol, fruits, spices, licorice and some mild yeast. Wellbalanced, quite pleasant for being this strong.

its like a dark park ruby brandy dynamite beer...strong and bold...raisens and brandy...complex and warming in cold amsterdam..nice smell..sweet smooth berries and port...

This trappist ale from the Netherlands poured a nice dark brown color with red tints and edges (dark brown-burgundy). The head was pillowy and significant and last quite well for somethin with such a high ABV. The aroma was complex (as was the flavor) with dark fruits, cherries, grapes, and some apples detectable. The flavor was much the same, but the alcohol came out too strong (very vinous). Spices also came through in the flavor, which was nice and not detected in the aroma. Mouthfeel was rather flat and this one was very malty thick. Maybe some age would have been a good thing for this one?
