With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today. In 1990, it became our first gold medal winner, at the Great American Beer Festival. Barney Flats was judged so superior to the other stouts that no other medals were even awarded in its catagory. Try it and see why Stewart Kallen described it as, "Slippery, creamy, dark, and sweet as a Pacific May morning," in his book, The 50 Greatest Beers in the World.

355 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Pleasant aroma of moderately roasted malts, caramel, oats, mild coffee and woodwork, hints of chocolate and liquorice. Nice flavour too, medium dry, with the same elements as the aroma. Very moderate hops. Smooth mouthfeel.

Pours a real dark brown colour with hardly any highlights. Big creamy-froth beige head with great retention and full lacing. Roasted malt aromas with nutty notes, caramel, maple syrup, dark fruits and the oats to round things up. Seems a bit light for the body, a little watery. The taste reflects on this, being a little milder than the nose. The roasted malts are smooth with the oats, hints of molasses and dark fruits. Not a bad brew for those who prefer their stouts thinner and with not as much punch.

Tasting w/ Marius. Dark brown, light brown lasting foam head. Light coffee aroma. Bit disappointing in taste (but then we had very strong beer just before), too much Barney there - too flat(e). Light bitter coffee. (Den Haag 201503)

Bottle says 5.8%. Pours and insane amount of frothy brownish head and has a fairly dark brown appearance. Dirty lacing. Aromas of malts, vanilla and light chocolates. Flavours are mostly malty with notes of coffee, oatmeal and light molasses. Also some hints of vanilla, raisins and nutty malts. Has a mostly medium bodied mouthfeel, but somewhat of a watery finish. Not bad but have had much better oatmeal stouts.

The beer pours a dark coca-cola brown with a thin creamy cap. Aroma is roasted malt, molasses, coffee, and chocolate. The mouthfeel is full bodied, creamy, with average carbonation. Flavour is slightly sweet, roasty, with hints of vanilla, coffee, and milk chocolate.

Pours an extremely almost black color with a lingering foamy head. Aroma is a sweet malt but with a hint of fruit. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. The taste is rich with a comparison to a Guniness.

I picked this beer up from the Wine Gourmet in Roanoke, Virginia. I really liked this beer. It was of caramel and coffee. I would have this stout again.

Pours a light blocking dark brown/black with a 4 finger head that stays for a long time. Little bit of carbonation is noticeable. Aroma is of dark malts with hints of fruit and coffee. Taste is very chewy. Hints of chocolate, dark roast malts, and slight coffee tastes. Slightly metallic. Finishes off with dark malts staying with a dry/sticky palette. I like it.

Deep dark brown that is pretty much black a thick tan cap floats on top. First sip is smooth and epic. Aroma is not as good, but still very good!! Aroma seems kind of chalky but with massive sweet chocolate, I'm hitting roasted cashew but that seems like a stretch, the more I smell the more I smell fresh backed chocolate zokini loaf, rounds out with mild coffee. Taste is sweet and chocolaty with just hints of ash. Brew just finishes dry and bitter. Mild earthiness. Why is there a aspertane flavour in here? Good beer but kind of a let down from the reputation.

Nice can from slowrunner. Near black pour - deep mahogany brown - tall tan head, lots of chunky lacing. Nice roasted malt aroma, near-coffee like, molasses, some sweetness, slightly nutty and creamy. Taste is smooth and rich, creamy and roasted malts, nice dark chocolate/java flavor, slight molasses. Very nice stout - thanks Chris - I waited awhile to enjoy this one.
