This is one rockin' Imperial Stout from French Canada. I've tried both the 2005 (7.7%) and the 2007 (7.9%) vintages. This is a black beer, slightly syrupy, with a small head. The aroma is very much roasted malt, and licorice, with a nice chocolatey feel. The taste is a nice balance of roasted malt, with a little hoppish bitterness in the finish, not to mention some more of the chocolate/coffee taste.

This is the first amazing Imperial Stout that I've had in a while. It pours a perfect black with a dark brown head that stays for a while. It's got a bit of toast and high percentage cocao dark chocolate in the aroma, with that sharpness that the high quality chocolate possesses. There's a bit of char and ash in the back of the flavor, but this is an excellent imperial stout.

2005B: Poured an oil like black, no real head forms but some reddish trim. Aroma seems rather repressed, perhaps it will come through better as it warms. A well pronouced mouthfeel, very thick and dense. This is by no means the most dense or pronouced mouthfeel (a characterstic that I believe makes this style rated so high and above most/all others) but present none the less. Seems to (unfortunately) decipate quickly. Flavour also lacks some harmony and again not as rich as others in the style. Surprinsgly, flavour falls alittle flat considering the presence of its mouthfeel. Though I lack the knowledge to say for sure, I'm feeling that some of this is the influence of the water used. Something is throwing off the flavour in this beer, and I think it might be the water used. Though this review seems to have focused on some of its minor shortcomings, I assure you this is good beer.

Written 2005 on the label. This imperial stout pours a chocolat brown with a creamy head and red highlights. The retention and lacing are heavy. The aroma is of coffee and molasse with notes of chocolat. Rich, but also mild in a way. Wow ! What a nice kick. Chocolat start with a bitter finish. Long coffee aftertaste with chocolat coming back into it. Also, notes of dark fruit as the beer warms up a bit. The mouthfeel is milky and creamy. An awesome impy, and thanks to S8n for this one.

WOW, what a great find this one is!!!! Pours very dark black with a dark tan head with great retention and lacing. Strong chocolate and coffee aroma. Mouthfeel is quite smooth with an ever so slightly bitter finish. Strong coffee mid with a great coffee aftertaste that just won't quit. Now this is a keeper, can't wait to pick up a few more 6 packs of this one!!!!

I received a large batch of beers from Quebec a few weeks ago, and I've been quite impressed with everything..., uh, that is, until now. I hate to say that this is the first stinker of the bunch, since that would imply that I didn't enjoy this. No, rather, it's just that this seemed way too light and easy-drinking for what is meant to be a rather proto-typical "extreme beer".

Good apparence , with a nice ever-present layer of tannish foam riding effortlessly atop the black-as-night body.

But even after letting this beer go from `fridge to cellar temps, and then cellar temps to damn-near room temperature, this beer's flaws tended to be highlighted. That is to say, the abscence of much aroma or an agressive flavor profile that such a beer like this should exert. Where's the complex flavor profile, and the thick and viscious mouthfeel, and the backend alcohol warmth, and so on?

A better "bigger than normal Stout" than any sort of official "Imperial Stout", since I didn't really mind drinking this during a rare power outage at me and Karen's place. But this really could be so much more than it is, IMO.

poured a dense black into my porter glass...thick choclate colored cap. Aromas of cocoa, capichino, some nutty tones and light grass some astringense from charred grains. Mouth feel is thick rich and oily..coffee, burnt treacle, bitter sweet cocoa..dense and layered...finish lingers as charred bittering takes over...a nice imperial, very drinkable.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-dark beer with an nice head with medium retention. Aroma is overpowered by roastiness and coffee, which I don’t mind. The taste is quite similar to the aroma, so again roastiness and coffee with a huge creamy body. Alcohol is very subtle with a finish that’s a bit too dry for my liking. Overall, this is another great beer from Bièropholie.

Opaque black, small tan head and nice lacing. Burnt and roasted caramel malts, dry chocolate aroma. Chocolate, roast and mocha, light alcohol and a bitter hoppy finish. A very nice and dry Imperial Stout.
