After an exciting season that saw the Starks reclaim the North and Cersei take the Iron Throne as the first queen of Westeros, Brewery Ommegang and HBO Global Licensing are introducing a new beer and bringing back a previous brew to steady the nerves of fans as they anxiously endure the show’s off-season break. Valar Dohaeris Tripel Ale is the latest beer in the series and pays homage to Arya’s season-long struggles within and around the House of Black and White. Valar Dohaeris Tripel Ale is, much like a “faceless man,” not what it first appears to be; it shares the complexity of its sister-brew, Valar Morghulis Dubbel, and a strength masked and belied by its lighter color.

Pours a golden colour with light orange hues. Tiny sediments through it. Warm cap, frothy, long lasting with some foamy lace. The nose is very close to most Belgian Tripels. Fruity, bready but overall quite yeasty. Hints of grains and grassy hops do come out eventually to show the American side. The taste is pretty reminiscent of the style and very light all-around. As in, quite drinkable for 9% ABV. Apples notes, light honey, blonde ale cereal, hints of spices. Well done. Just expecting more sweetness from the Belgian Ale yeast like the north American version. I could not tell this is not from Belgian.

750ml bottle with cork and cage from LCBO. Pours an insane amount of frothy off-white head that sticks around for quite awhile. Has a hazy golden appearance. Aromas of Belgian yeast, bready malts, herbs and floral hops, a little bit perfumy. Flavours are very fruity, lots of Belgian yeast notes, bready and sweet malts. Full bodied, great retention. Somewhat excessive carbonation. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Very good!

Pours clear amber with a very thick buff head. Aroma offers malty, oaten, woody, yeasty, and subtle honey and fruity notes. Flavor nicely echoes the aroma but ramps up the fruit and adds a little wheat and citrus. Mouthfeel features decent body and woody fizz. Answer the call.
