Made with pale and caramel malts and German Perle hops, Puppers is perfectly in balance between malt and hops and sweetness and bitterness. Slightly grainy and yeasty, this dark golden lager is perfectly balanced with a slightly drying, sulfur-toned finish. “Our new partnership with Labatt is a significant step in the evolution of the Puppers beer brand,” said Mark Montefiore, President of New Metric Media, in a statement. “Labatt’s expertise and strong distribution reach will help get Puppers to a wider marketplace for Letterkenny fans and beer drinkers alike to enjoy all summer long and through 2021.” A previous version of Puppers was released in 2017 by Stack Brewing in Sudbury, and was available for several years in Ontario, and briefly in Alberta.

The beer pours a clear gold with a white head that lingers. Effervescence is high in this one and lacing is non-existent. The aroma is biscuit malt, noble hops, light yeast, and something tangy I can’t identify. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt, slightly sweet, and has a nice bitter finish.

Had the chance to try the Stack brewing version before rights got changed. This is a tall can from LCBO. Pours an insanely huge foaming white head and actually sticks around for quite a while and has a clear straw coloured appearance. Thick dirty lacing. But, has about the same kinda aromas as the other with the grainy malts, wheats and slight grassy hop hints. Flavours are fairly similar to aromas with the grainy and grassy notes as not much else coming through. Oh yeah, some wheaty notes too. Overall, not much of an improvement and maybe because of rights and stuff that Stack Brewing doesn't do this one anymore but can't really tell the difference.

Pours a clean golden colour with an orange hue. The head is pretty big, almost creamy, warm-white with good retention, leaving some nice creamy lacing. I do not see much carbonation though. Spicy pils-like aromas at first pour, with some sweet malts, to then show some cereal grain base. The barley shows up in the taste with the sweetness being just alright, with mild hops that cut this off to a fine point. Not a bad Golden Lager that is probably way better cold, but could do a few.
