To celebrate 125 years La Trappe. Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber beer with caramel nuts, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Characteristics: Unfiltered, top-fermenting Trappist beer with symbolic value.

Comes out of the tap a barely translucent sienna. with a decent, if not persistent, light wheat head that still manages to leave some generous lacing. Robust aroma has firm notes of fresh-cut wood, caramel, sweet malt and caramel. Woody hop dominates the flavor, which is more sweet than bitter, and has nice malty, caramel and earthy notes. Firm texture leaves a nice tingly and woody finish. I’m sure Brother Isidorus would be danged proud!

This beer poured with a dull copper colored body topped by a creamy beige colored head that held that left patchy lace down the glass. Aroma is sweet caramel malt with some dark fruit and nutty tones coming through also. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and rich with very nice carbonation. Dominant flavors are plum and caramel with some light yeasty and toffee as well, a faint metallic taste lingers in the finish pulling the quality of this ale down a bit.

330 ml capped bottle. Poured in the original La Trappe chalice a clear and old-reddish-copper coloured B A with a one finger beige, fine and dense foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Active carbonation. Some lacing. The aroma is caramel and roasted malts, fruity, riped raisins, dark berries, strawberries, notes of bananas. The flavour is yeasty, roasted and caramel malts, dried fruits, walnuts, notes of honey. The mouthfeel is fulled, sweety, a bit sticky, syrupy tones. The texture is oily. This medium to full bodied B A has a quite long sirupy finish. A solidly built " Belgian " Ale from a Trappist Brewery in the Netherlands.

Really nice copper or caramel color with frothy head that slowly yields. Smells like raisin and copper pennies. Taste is light, certainly Belgian, and spiced just right by the hops. Good balance, decent brew.

Pours hazy orange brown, with an offwhite head. Nose has some banana, with some caramelized fruits and gentle breadiness. Flavors of dark fruit. Some yeast and dark bread character. Somewhat complex, overall a solid Belgian ale ...reminds me of a Dubbel but not as strong.

Wish List beer - bottle from lilmiss. Lightly hazed amber pour with a tight head, ample lacing. Spicy and malty aroma and initial taste, Belgian-style yeasts, ample maltiness and spicy hops, nice fruitiness and then bitter. Very satisfying. My next to last Trappist brewery to try. Thanks Aimee!

Pours a crystal clear burgundy with a 4 finger head that takes its time. Lots of carbonation in this one. Aroma is very yeasty and candy sweet with hints of dried fruits. Little bit of sediment floating around in it. Taste is very typical of Belgian ales, sweet, dry with bready and spicy notes. This one is a tad metallic at first. Dry aftertaste. Good introduction beer for beginners.

First off, the plastic cork (written "newcork" on it) was pretty hard to pull-out. I am use to opening a sparkling bottle a week, but this one did not have much grab. At least after that, did look like a good brew. Hazy golden-amber colour, big creamy-froth warm cap, very long lasting and decent lace. Caramel malt in the nose with notes of apples, and maybe a little spices (from the Belgian Ale yeast). Pretty much the same for the taste with less spices and the apples lingering in the aftertaste. Just a little watery overall, not as powerful as one think of this one. Medium-bodied, average mouthfeel. Still, nice to try this one. Happy 125th anniversary, La Trappe.

Beer pours a translucent reddish-brown colour. Not as dark as a dubbel or a quad, but close. Head is long lasting, tan coloured, and rocky. Aroma is sweet malt, yeast, mild fruit, and spices. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is Belgian yeast, wood, with dry, sweet, fruit hints. Not bad, but I was expecting more from a Trappist ale.

Very fruity, light and dark, with pronounced oaking and a long lasting dry and spicy sweet Belgian yeast aftertaste. Nice but not as good as we were expecting.
