Among the approximately 2 cases of beer that I brought back from Maine were two bottles from the Kennebec Brewing Company -- their Pale Ale and ESB.

First impressions of this beer left much to be desired. And unfortunately, things did not improve greatly from the initial pour. Apperence wise, rather lack-luster, with zero head retention.

Both the smell and taste were also rather dull and uninspiring. While I prefer West Coast Ales, and their accent on hops, I surely respect East Coast Ales and their more balanced maltiness/hoppiness. This beer, unfortunately, sits on the fence -- "jack of all trades, master of none", if you will. Not enough hops or malt to make this interesting.

Mouthfeel and drinkability are degraded by the rather dull presentation. I would hate to call this boring and musty, but in fact it is that, and not much more.

I hope to have a much better expeirence with the Kennebec Brewing Company when I pop open their ESB....
