Rated Aug. 2009. On tap at the Dunedin Brewery. Pours deep copper with gold just at the edges of the glass and white head with modest sheet lacing. The first swig is, hey, this almost tastes barrel aged. It seems to start out with sweet malts bleeding into sweet booze enhanced molasses, buttery diacetyl and caramel. By midway I get smooth hop notes coming to the surface creating a thin layer of sweet citrus. The aroma is dry oak mixing with a rye twang and moving toward molasses and a sense of a vague hop tingle near the end of the draw. After it warmed a bit the taste started to mirror the nose with a pulse of oak and thick molasses sweetness and a modest rye twang. It finishes with lingering dry oak chips. This brew has lots of flavor going on.
