This special edition is a full bodied and distinctive strong beer developed within the abbey to celebrate and honor the 150th anniversary of the brewery. Produced with 100% natural ingredients, its pale golden robe and champagne sparkle is topped by a rich white head of foam. The distinctive bouquet evokes the rich fruity and complex notes of the Chimay yeast in harmony with a delicate spicy note and the fragrance of fresh noble hops. At 10% alcohol, the flavor is full bodied and complex with a slight but refreshing tang note and a crisp hop finish that will delight the palate.

750 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Golden colour, huge white head. Aroma of white kandij sugar syrup, Belgian Trappist yeast, dried fruits and mild spices. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements, moderate hops.

Pours clear solar yellow with a thick ivory head. Aroma provides coriander, floral, woody hop and fresh malt notes. Flavor delivers coriander, woody hops, floral, citrus and subtle malt character. Texture gives OK body and peppy fizz. Spend a few cents on Cinquante.

I received this beer as a gift and finally decided to give it a go on Thanksgiving 2014. I was excited for this one, but sadly, it missed the mark for me. The beer was a tad spicy and a bit boozy. I even noticed something that appeared to be a metallic note in the beer. The other Chimay offerings are superior but I am glad I got to try this.

The beer poured a lightly hazed, red-tinged golden colour with a long lasting rocky head. Aroma is Chimay yeast, orange and apple notes, spices and a hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is full bodied, with good carbonation. Flavour is light fruits, the yeast and alcohol are certainly noticeable, and a bitter finish. Very similar to the Chimay White, with the alcohol definitely more noticeable.

Available in Quebec via Special order, this is Chimay's newest tripel and is an 'updated version' of Cing Cents (according to the monastery literature). Large bottle, quite pretty compared to the simple, yet elegant branding on the regular lineup. A cloudy gold colour, orange highlights, generous foaming white head. Chimay yeast up front, light fruit, grains, and citrus rounds out the aroma. The alcohol is very prevalent in the flavour which otherwise is a champagney, yeasty grainy beer. Not as well put together as Cinq Cents, but still a good beer.

150th Anniversary bottle from a Goldman-Sachs function. It pours an unfiltered light gold color with a huge white cap. Tons of effervescence. Aroma is citrus, spices, light pears, and yeast. Similar to Cinq Cent but less pungent. Flavour is a yeasty boozy mess. Alcohol is quite prevalent as well as the yeast. Not a lot of malt or spiciness on the palate. If you have a bottle, age it. There were a couple of colleagues who had tried the beer in July and felt that the 3 months of aging improved it somewhat. More aging woldn't hurt.
