Barley wine is made from barley but is named due to the similar alcohol content of wine. Originating in England, this style reveals a depth of flavour and richness that will warm your belly and blush your cheeks. Barghest is a monstrous black dog found in English folklore. As legend spells, this creature appears only at night and it is said that those who see a Barghest will meet an untimely end soon after the encounter. So close your eyes as you safely drink and absorb the full beastly experience. Brewed from the careful selection of six malts, painted with the soft hues of ruby, and finished with the selective piring of Northern Brewer and Fuggle hops arrives Barghest Barleywyne. Savour the deep rich flavours and aromas enhanced by the dark dried fruit balancing the bold body with its luxurious finish that is created through the year long maturation period, bringing this seductive beverage to an alcohol content of 9.5%.

    Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

Bottle 317 of 3000. Small 275ml bottle with a nice black wax dip, wife likes the evil black dog on the label. Beautiful amber body with only a few small bubble islands floating on top. Sweet plumb, cherry, other dark sweet aromas, wood, malty yumness with a toffee finish in the nose. Wish the aroma was heavier. Taste is the same, light, sweet, highly drinkable. Cherry, wood, caramel........something in this taste is throwing off. Soap? The warmer this gets the more harsh (harsh seems to harsh of a word) and woody the taste becomes. Wish this was less harsh but more intense if you know what I'm saying. I liked this way better in the start then the finish but still good and highly drinkable.....Good effort.
