This beer is fermented at a lower temperature than our standard ales, giving it a very malty taste. Scottish and English malts are melded together with English hops to create its strong, sweet, malty finish. The caramel color comes from a blending of UK Kent Goldings, but only in small amounts to allow malt flavors to come through. Be careful, it is strong with an alcohol level of 7.6%. Like a fine single malt, this hearty brew will get better with age. Gold Medal, 2000, California State Fair, Silver Medal, 2001, California State Fair, Bronze Medal, 1997, Beerfest Invitational. - og 1.077, ABV 7.6%, IBU 30.

On tap at Beer Republic during SF Beer Week, what a week! Pours murky dark brown with thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweet dark fruity esters like prunes, figs and dates as well as some roasted malts and chocolate malts. The taste begins with a sweet dark fruity ester onslaught coming from all direction via prunes, raisins and figs and then picking up a modest amount of dark roasted malts, chocolate malts and a mild yet pleasing earthiness. It lingers with some chocolate and roasted malts into the finish. Pretty right on for the style.

Who's the big hot bag of air, who doesn't have to comb his hair? Who doesn't bathe and doesn't care, Sanka, Sanka, yay, Sanka! .. Shows alot of alcohol; It's not so much the heat, it's the humidity that'll kill you. .. rum and maple flavors ..low medium head .. not that enjoyable .. Don't touch me!

a very smooth, medium bodied (especially for the higher abv), solid brew! it's sweet, but not overly so, and the msokiness from the peet is pretty subtle, so that even my peet-hating wife enjoyed it. hints of dark malt and sweet fruitiness in the nose. classic flavor, minus a touch of smoke. good balance.
