This Export Stout was Originally brewed in 2017, as part of our monthly Ides series. When it won the 2018 Canadian Brewing Gold, we decided to brew it again as a seasonal. Its popularity has endured and now we brew it every winter. Export Stouts have been brewed since the 18th century and are generally A stronger version of the style. Ours has the aroma of baker’s chocolate and coffee, and a clean, dry finish.

Tall can from LCBO. Pours an average size thick and frothy brownish head and has a deep dark amber/brown appearance. Decent sticky and dirty lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas of roasted malts, resin, hints of coffee and chocolate. Flavours are sweet malts, dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice, smokey and woodsy notes in the finish. A bit of a dry finish. Pretty good.

Pours a real dark brown colour, almost black with very little copper highlights. The head is warm beige, very big, quite long lasting with wavy lacing. Some nice chocolate notes with the roasted malts coming out with time. This is also the base in the flavours with a slight warming. Cocoa and coffee with hints of liquorice. Nothing too fancy, but very well-brewed to be an easy-drinking stronger stout.

The beer pours a dark coca-cola colour with a bubbly brown head that doesn’t stick around very long. The aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, and coffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is dark chocolate, dark fruit notes, vanilla, and a quite bitter rooftop finish. The alcohol is warming despite being only 7%.
