Part of Beau’s series of true-to-style beers, this Belgian-style black ale is a showcase of roasted chocolate and black malts, to which monastery ale yeast adds a characteristically Belgian spiced finish. Hidden deep within the dragon’s lair, this ale is worth the challenge of contending against its keeper. History & Style Belgium has an unparalleled brewing heritage, and Belgian-style beer is now brewed the world over by those who enjoy it. Interpretations have been constantly tweaked and reinvented to accommodate contemporary tastes. Rooted in Belgian influence, this modern classic intermingles favourite flavours of fruit, chocolate, coffee and spice. Tasting Notes Belgian-style black ale pours nearly opaque black with a tan foam. The aroma offers notes of dark chocolate, espresso and a touch of cinnamon and star anise from the use of Belgian yeast. The flavour consists of dark malt, dried fruit and peppery spice. The finish is dry and imparts lingering spice. INGREDIENTS Local spring water, organic barley malts, organic oats, organic hops, brewer’s yeast. Enjoyed at the Atomic Rooster. Pours a dark brown colour with cola highlights, a creamy beige cap, long lasting with decent creamy lacing. Roasted malt nose with chocolate notes, mild oatmeal and herbs. Flavours of roasted malts with some dark fruits, herbal notes, liquorice and hints of coconut. Lightly dry mouthfeel and crisp. Interesting black ale with some different hops adding a twist, like spiciness. Just not much Belgian Ale yeast seen here though.
