A refreshing Radler made with our Pilsner and organic citrus juice Radlers originate from Germany, dating back to the 1920s when thousands of cyclists crashed a local party in a small village. The host didn’t have enough beer, so he blended beer 50/50 with fruit sodas… and the rest was history. In fact, Radler means “cyclist” in German. We started working on our Radler in collaboration with our friends at Greenhouse Juice through a few community events we hosted last year. We mixed our beers with some of their cold-pressed organic juices and the results were delectable. This inspired us to develop the Ace Hill Radler on a commercial scale, where we’ve maintained our commitment to using real organic citrus juice and have blended it with our flagship Pilsner.

Cloudy golden-peach-pink colour with a white cap that disappears quickly with no trace of lacing. What I smell is mostly peach juice, but no sign of this fruit in this one. Just apple, grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime juices. Pineapple aromas maybe - oh wait, none of that too. Locust Bean Gum in here to thicken things, so weird mouthfeel which is a little too thick to refresh, but still seems a little too thin overall. Seems like decent organic fruit juices, but nothing like a refreshing half beer and half grapefruit juice. If looking for a different radler, this is a nice one for that. Extra point for organic.

The beer pours a murky grapefruit colour with a generous white head which disappears right before your eyes. The aroma is more herbal than fruit, although one can detect notes of citrus, especially oranges, and there are milky notes. The aroma is pleasant, but nothing like a beer should smell like. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation, and I’m talking soft drink carbonation levels. The flavour is fruity with notes of orange, grapefruit, and lime and a touch of grainy malt. As a beer, this isn’t what I was hoping for, but it would make a great summer cooler/alcoholic soft drink for those who are into that sort of thing. . -

Picked up a can at the local Foodland. Pours a fairly big foamy white head that dissipates to a thin bubbly coating. Somewhat excessive carbonation. Has a cloudy orangey appearance. No lacing. Aromas of passion fruit, tropical fruits, wheaty, some floral notes. Flavours are fairly sweet and fruity, notes of peaches, passion fruit, lots of wheat and hints of yeast. A bit of a fizzy mouthfeel.
