Brewed in collaboration with our neighbours, Pilot Coffee Roasters, Bricks and Mortar is our tribute to the brick industry upon which our neighbourhood was built along with our own evolution to becoming a physical brewery. Whole freshly roasted Guatemala Gesha coffee beans are added to the beer during the final stages of conditioning for a gentle, cold extraction process. This uniquely bright and aromatic Coffee Porter delivers a complex blend of rich chocolate and coffee balanced with sweet honeydew melon, jasmine and vanilla.

The beer pours a coca-cola colour with a thin creamy brown head that doesn’t last very long. The aroma is roasted malt, soy sauce, weak coffee, and anise. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, chalky, and with average carbonation. The flavour is bitter coffee, dark chocolate, and some nutty tones. Like the ‘Sweet Spot’ I find this to be a bit bitter for my liking. -

Pours a dark brown colour with lots of ruby highlights. The head is mocha-coloured, very long lasting, frothy, fluffy and has thick wavy lacing. Chocolate-cocoa aromas over roasted malts, coffee notes and even hints of vanilla to soften things. The taste is more of the roasted malt giving burnt notes and lots of hops in the finish. Bitterness lingers. Some coffee comes out a little. Not full on the coffee, but feels more like a hoppy stout.

Pours a hazy very dark brown. The large foamy tan head stays the distance and leaves great lacing. Close to perfect appearance. Milky coffee aroma. It's not strong coffee but coffee dominates the flavour. Also has mild roasted malt, lactose sweetness, dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. Medium smooth sticky mouthfeel. This is a good breakfast beer.

650ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a huge foamy brownish head that sticks around for quite awhile. Has a deep dark amber/brownish appearance. Medium carbonation. Average retention. Aromas of roasted barley malts, coffee, some spices. Flavours are sweet, coffee, dark roasted malts, some notes of chocolate, very faint vanilla hints. Also a little bit of cocoa and mild earthy type hops. Good balance of sweetness and light bitterness.
