This is the forty-first annual "Our Special Ale" from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid–January. The Ale's recipe is different every year, as is the tree on the label, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew.

Pours dark chocolate brown with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma presents roast malt, evergreen and spicy tones. Flavor continues the tones from the aroma and adds earthy and caramel tones to the mix. Mouthfeel has decent fizz and body. If not the best in Anchor's series, certainly enjoyable. Bottle. Dark, opaque brown pour with a medium, foamy tan head. Aroma is spices, caramel, rum cake notes and light herbal notes. Taste is spices, light herbs, caramel, sweet malt, molasses, toasted dark bread, cake and soft toasted nuts. Body is medium with a smooth bubbly carbonation. Ends with more spices, light herbal notes, dark bread, grains, caramel, molasses, light hops and cake notes.
