http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/calling-all-homebrewers-from-coast-to-coast-samuel-adams-pits-east-vs-west-in-a-homebrew-battle-300046964.html This deep copper colored Rauchbier has all of the flavors you would expect in this traditional style: smoky, slightly savory with a malty sweetness and roastiness. The smoky flavors are balanced by a light toffee malt character and slight citrus from the hops. The brew finishes with a lingering smokiness, sweetness and subtle hop character..

Haven't had too many beers in this style, but I like them all. Reminds me of a smokey Oktoberfest or Amber Ale. Has a semi-clear mahogany appearance. Aroma and flavors of caramel malt plus liquid smoke. A good year-round beer.

A dull chestnut colored beer with a big fluffy textured beige colored head rising above. There's decent hang time on the head. Some light film and moderate ringlet. Light bready malt, fainter smokiness in the nose. The smokiness comes out in the tasting, but is not overbearing. Light bodied, nearly watered.
