Our Lager takes its inspiration from the German style of lager, Helles. Helles was first produced in Munich in the late 1800s as an alternative to the typical ‘dunkelbier’ (‘dark coloured beer’) produced in the area (‘Helles’ means ‘light-coloured’ in German). Ours, like the first Helles beer that was brewed back in 1894, has a sweet, malty flavour balanced with a light aromatic hoppiness that makes it very refreshing. We use Naked Golden Oats to make our Lager. Naked Golden Oats are grown without husks so that even more sweetness and flavour can be extracted from the grains during brewing.

March 2017: 500 ml can, from Helgø MENY Sola. ABV is 4.6%. Clear and very pale golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of newmown grass, sweetish hints of candy. Fairly refreshing flavour, a tad on the sweet side, fairly decent herbal hops. Not too bad.

Single can at the LCBO. Interesting to see a can from this brewery. Pours a clear golden colour with a big frothy head, nice retention and web-foam lacing. Grainy malt at first pour with mild oats and the hop then kicks in (which seems to be commercial one). The hop also starts the taste (kind of adjunct) but the cereal malts balances things. Not a bad lager, and pretty far from their normal ales.

The beer pours a translucent shimmering medium gold colour with a generous bubbly white head which lasts less than 10 seconds. The aroma is cereal malt and a hint of earthy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is a slight lactose sweetness associated with Canadian 'stock' ales, with hints of hops in the mix. I would definitely try this again as a cheap flavourful go-to lager.

Pours an average foamy bubbly white head and has a clear golden appearance. Some dirty lacing. Aromas are mostly light malts with notes of wheats. Flavours are quite malty with some notes of wheat and some subtle hints of oats. Medium/full bodied mouthfeel. Pretty good but also not as adventurous as usual Innis & Gunn brews.
