One of Quebec’s proudest sons, Jacques Plante (1929-1986) was among the first to play outside the crease and behind the net and to wear a mask as everyday equipment. “Jake the Snake” notched seven Vezina trophies and six Stanley Cups (all with Montreal) during 19 years of pro hockey. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978. Released in June 2014, we have only made 12,300 bottles of this beer, available for a limited time at select LCBOs and as part of the Signature Series Club. For more go to www.signatureseriesclub.com Tasting Notes Wood aging take a non-traditional turn with this very special Imperial Pilsner. Ash wood (one of the woods from which hockey sticks are traditionally made) brings out the smoothness of Vienna Malt and the spicy bittering qualities of Columbus and Chinook hops. The beer pours a brilliant dark golden colour yielding to nice white foam. The nose is citrus to start with tangerine as the lead aroma. Following closely behind is cantaloupe, apricot, and tropical fruit, with a honey finish. The body is sparkling and dry, revealing some subtle sweetness (honey) and egg bread and toast with just a hint of orange marmalade flavours. The finish is smooth and slightly lingering.

Pours a clean light amber colour with a warm cap, decent retention and some foamy lace. Sweet malty aromas with fruity notes and hints of grassy hops. Mild fruity malt taste with some light bitterness from the hops. This creates a nice smooth dryness in the mouthfeel. Alcohol is present, but no burning. Not a Euro pilsener, but North American as the hop is a little more present. Almost feels like an Imperial APA, which goes down nicely.

Pours a large amount of foamy off-white head and has a pale golden appearance. Ok lacing. Aromas are grainy and wheaty, some malts and sweet notes. Flavours are mainly sweet malts, grains and some notes of honey in the finish. Has a somewhat smooth mouthfeel at first but fairly astringent afterwards and some sort of rusty metallic like taste. A tad overpriced in my opinion.

The beer pours a translucent orange gold colour with a long lasting white head. The aroma is grains, citrus, and honey. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is butterscotch and grainy. No fruit flavours that I can tell.
