Beer Line is an off-the-rail barley wine style ale: rich, malty, multi-layered, and copper-amber. The off-white head liberates aromas of strawberry, dried-fruit, grapefruit, and papaya. The smooth, malt-forward flavor is equally complex, with undertones of caramel and toffee. Not overly sweet by any means, organic Bravo hops balance the malt syrup sweetness, finishing slightly spicy with a pleasurable alcohol warmth. We recommend serving Beer Line as an after-dinner digestif. It will pair well with the sharp flavors of an American-style Gorgonzola or a five year cheddar. Beer Line’s dried fruit flavors will rhyme with the nutty, fruity aroma of a rich Stilton. - See more at: http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/beer/seasonals/beer-line#sthash.323SrHIX.dpuf

A little back story on this one. Visited the local Mom and Pop liquor store looking for a barleywine. This looked interesting, so I purchased and brought it home. When I got home I discovered that it was bottled on 1/15/2014. I generally like my barleywines with a little age on them. This one fits the bill. Here goes. Pours a reddish brown color with a small light tan head that leaves sheets of lacing on the glass that quickly disappear. Aromas of dark fruit (dates, raisins and prunes) and caramel malt and with boozy overtones. Flavors of caramel, dried apricots, dates, raisins and sweet malt. Mouthfeel is full and coats my mouth with malty goodness. This beer has far exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. At almost 3 years old, this beer holds true with my thoughts about aging barleywines. Kind of sad to finish the last bottle of the 4 pack. Would love to find some more. :(
