Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of an uber-hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.

Is this a wheat IPA? There is a lot of hoppy aroma as soon as the can is opened. The pour is slightly hazy, gold in color, and capped off with a tight creamy white head. The aroma is very citrus forward with loads of grapefruit. There are wheat and spice notes in the background. The mouthfeel is average. The flavor is nicely balanced between the pine and citrus flavors and the more sweet malt notes. A good beer.

Clean golden colour with a big frothy warm cap, good retention and some creamy lace. Beautiful fresh hop aromas with hints of lemongrass and mild citrus. The mouthfeel feel thin, with a little dryness. The taste has some hoppiness, but pretty light (which is good for a Pale Ale) and the wheat seems to calm things down even more. Becomes hazy at last pour. A good tropical pale ale.

Tallboy from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy white head, thick sticky lacing, has a pale golden appearance with moderate carbonation. Aromas of floral and herbal hops, a bit grassy and some hints of caramel. Flavours are citrusy and floral, a little bit yeasty and grassy as well. Some very sutble notes of caramel and bready malts in the finish. Somewhat of a dry mouthfeel.

Taps clear golden with a fair eggshell head. Aroma features resiny hops, zesty lemon, and fresh wheat notes. Flavor nicely echoes the aroma, though with more emphasis on the wheat character and less on the hops. Mouthfeel presents thin body and OK fizz. Sail to the Fortunate Islands.

Tropical fruit aroma atop a lightly malty wheat base. Great body...crisp, light and refreshing, yet tastes like an IPA, and a damn good one at that. Far and away the best "American Wheat" I've ever had.

Sampled on 3/20/2014. This wheat ale pours a medium yellow gold color from a 16oz can. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, pineapple, mango and other tropicals, with some hops. A medium bodied wheat ale. The malts are cereal and wheat, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and piney. Decent carbonation. A lot of tropical flavors, yet not overly sweet and the hops give it a nice dry finish. This one would make a very nice summer session beer, crisp and clean, light and refreshing. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
