Pours a fairly thick frothy creamy brownish head and has a very dark brown appearance with ruby highlights. Lacing is fairly thick and dirty. Aromas of toasted malts, barley, smokey and mild spice notes. Flavours are somewhat sweet at first but has much more smokey notes afterwards. Lots of toasty and roasted malt flavours. Smooth and slick mouthfeel. Good retention.

Very dark brown with a small creamy head. Head reduces to a small cap. Leaves blotchy lacing. Aroma has a slight hint of smoke.Very subtle smoke flavour to go with the roasted malt, dark chocolate and burnt coffee.A little thin but smooth. Nice porter

Pours a dark black/brown with a nice flufy head. Aroma is strong and there is no noticable smokiness to it. Flavoy is slightly smoky with hints of dark chocolate. Texture is clean with a slight cream. Over all a nice brew.

Pours dark and barely opaque. There's a bit smoke aroma in the nose of the bottle, but it's not very detectable. Good flavor for a porter, maybe a hint of vanilla, but I don't think I'd know it was a smoked beer without the label to tell me.

A lot of red in the color for a porter, it is dark though. Aroma is very mild overall, mostly malt and some smoke, not real heavy on the smoke though. Taste is solid with malt, a bit nutty, some smoke and a good amount of hops. It doesn't remind me of a porter on any level but it is a tasty beer.

How is it that I have not reviewed this already? Sampled yesterday at Panamint Springs Resort in Death Valley. One of those rare occasions that I experienced snow and hail out there. Anyway, the nice chaps there brought me a brandy snifter style glass from New Belgium to drink it out of. Poured almost black with some red tints/highlights...almost no head at all. As it warmed up, flavors of chocolate and a rich smokiness loomed throughout the second half of the bottle. A delightful porter, but not nearly as outlandish as I used to think it was. I did not taste any licorice as the bottle promised, but I did detect some burnt coffee in the mix. Mouthfeel is smooth and full, with a dry and clean finish.

Very deep ruby color. Brownish/orange/ruby highlights around the edges. Almost black when held away from the light. Nice tan, creamy head with very nice retention and excellent lacing. The head settled to a wonderful film on top. The description on the bottle is spot on. A nice smokey aroma of coffee and chocolate. Licorice is both delicate and brilliant. The dark fruit is subdued, but makes a worthy impression. The smell is very well balanced in my opinion. A nice robust black coffee flavor jumps out at first. Followed by some rich chocolate flavors. Both are equally roasty, burnt and smokey. The dark fruit, like in the smell, is pushed to the background to give a little complexity. Medium to mostly full mouthfeel. Chewy and smooth. Tons left on the palate waiting for the next sip. Very dry and exquisite. This is a Porter that has a strong character and flavor. It's perfect for the bitter cold evenings. The smokey aroma and flavor are really prominent and, to some extent, started to distract me. Not a great deal, but some. It's still a great, well rounded Porter. One that I will pick up again and again. I could drink this in moderation with extreme pleasure.

On tap @ Bearden Beer Market. Brown-black pour with an ample tannish colored head leaving some nice lacing. Aromas have a slight smoked quality, not overwhelming, with toasted malts, some earthy hops. Taste is again slightly smoky with the roasted malts coming through a bit more in the flavor then balanced nicely with the hops in the end. Nice brew.

Smoked Porters were suppsed to be a fad a few years ago according to the Boston Globe....and if they were all like this one, it wouldn't last very long. A very dark brown pour with a creamy beige coloured head. No smokiness in the aroma whatseoever, just a lot of roasted malt, and licorice. The flavour brings a little smokiness to the forefront, but barely enough to call it a smoked porter.

Fantastic! Pours black as night with a decent tan head. Aroma has a bit of scotch. Mouthfeel is smoke. Flavor is smoke (in a good way). Nice, nice, nice, nice, nice.
