Must is to wine as wort is to beer; the primordial ooze, the source and foundation, that feeds the process of fermentation we all love so much. Amuste is the culmination of a two year endeavor to marry these two fuels into the same fire. An Imperial Porter aged in oak wine barrels accented with juice from Tempranillo grapes grown on the Western Slope of Colorado, this harmonic combination is truly, a must. 9.3%Alc. by Vol.

I liked this a lot. Not really as an imperial porter, and not really as your average (sour) wine barreled beer, but because it was so balanced, and yet so unique. Very much red wine grapes in the nose & flavor. Slightly tart, but more sweet. But the roast is there too in equal measure. It's weird, and a bit tingly, but they play off each other well. Nice different brew. Too steep to buy a bottle again, though...

750 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with a big fluffy light brown head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet winey grapes and roast chocolate malts with some earthiness.

The flavor is sweet sugary grapes and vinous alcohol with some roast malt that gives it some bitterness in the finish. It's a little chalky and acidic. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with sharp bubbly carbonation.

Overall, it's interesting with the winey grapes, but a bit off.
