Roger Maris made history when he beat Babe Ruth’s home run record in 1961. He played straight to the point baseball that wasn’t flashy or boastful. He clocked in, knocked dingers and clocked out. He did his job and did it well. Our Pale Ale he inspired intends to do the same. Brewed primarily with Maris Otter malt, Maris* is a down to earth nutty beer made for a day at the ballpark. Don’t let the asterisk fool you: like his record, Maris* is the real deal.

On tap at the brewery. Pours an average size frothy white head with good retention. Has a pale golden appearance. Thick sticky lacing. Aromas of light grassy hops, also floral notes as well as a little bit grainy. Flavours are also grassy some decent amount of fruit notes. Nice dry and crisp finish on the palate. Not too bad.

The first new beer of 2014. It pours a translucent light golden brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma is grass, weak citrus, and herbs. Nothing very prominent. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is very malty, some salty notes and ends with a nice hop bite.

On tap @ Imbibe Burnished gold, slight haze, 2 finger puffy cap that lasts for a while. Light carbonation. Aroma is fruity, malty sweet some grass. Flavour is similar to an English PA malty verging on sweet, fruity estery, well balanced with golding hop bittering showingup in the finish. A very serviceable fresh UK-styled pale ale but noyhing really distinctive.
