Our Spring Imp is brewed for the season when the monks in Munich would traditionally release them. It is a medium bodied Bockbier brewed to 7% alc which has more malt character than our permanent Hellesbock. Brewed with German malt, hops, yeast, the only Canadian ingredient is the water! These strong lager beers are rich in flavour as well as history and will put a twinkle in your eye! Prost!

Bottle - deep burnished gold in the glass, clear, 1 finger off white cap reduces quickly to surface lace. Aroma is slight but there is a rich lager aroma, just very understated. Nice Maibock tastes but, again, understated and a tad thin - sweet malts well balanced with Hallertau woodiness, some earthiness, clean, malty with a fast finish for a bock. Another gateway beer that will attract those escaping corporate brews

Another winner from Mill Street. Sampled along with the Maple Ale as part of their Spring sampler. A very nice beautiful head and a beautiful amber colour gives way to a brew with a very subtle apple taste, which I was so not expecting, and given how much I love apples, a very nice surprise.

Acquired from trade with Chopz. Poured a frothy white head and has an amber coppery appearance. Aromas of grains, wheats and light roasted malts. Sweet malty flavours with notes of caramel and light toffee taste. Light bodied with faint carbonation. Has a tingling and slight warming sensation on the palate. Seems to have a bit of spices in the mix. Not too bad but pretty average for a Mill Street brew.

The beer poured a translucent light copper colour with plenty of effervescence but no head. Aroma was grains, some caramel, and some acidic notes. Mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. Flavour is slightly sweet malt with some caramel and fruit notes. Not a lot of hop character in either the nose or the palate. Quite disappointing for a doppelbock.

Comes in a 6-pack of their 2013 Spring Sampler (3 of these, and 3 of the Spring Thaw). Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a creamy-foam off-white cap that has decent retention and somewhat streaky lace. Big malty aromas of cereal, darker grains, with some light alcohol. Silky smooth mouthfeel with just a little warming from the alcohol. The taste is a little milder than the nose, but still has some character, with bread, malts, caramel and the hop adding a little grass (and peas) to it. Not sure I like the hop used for this one, mixing with the good malt. Maybe I am not a fan of the style.
