That time of year when the light fades away. Brewed for the darkness, Fade to Black speaks in volumes. Welcome to Volume 4, the Beer pours pitch black with an off white head. Citrus (bergamot) and roast dominates the nose. Slight sweet malt gets pushed back by initial citrusy hops followed by powerful Italian Amaro, gentian and hop bitterness. Finishing with a pleasant duality of dry roasted malts and hop bitterness. Nice acceptable beer but not very stand out in any category. Roasted malt and a little hop bitterness but not much. Medium mouthfeel. Black colour pour with not much head but leaves a scummy lacing.

Pours out as black as coal with no head. The aroma is all hops . The mouthfeel, who knows it's so damn hoppy. The taste is very bitter and hoppy not at all a beer I can enjoy. I don't like a hoppy beer so my review is not fair to you that enjoy them.

Comes out of the tap an opaque coffee brown with a thin tan head. Aroma had notes of roast malt and quality coffee plus a snip of hops. Flavor has rich mocha and hop notes, like the best stout mixed with the best IPA, plus caramel, nutty, earthy and licorice tones and a fruity hint. Not too sweet, not too bitter. Firm texture is quite smooth and quite fizzy, leaving a hoppy mocha finish. Don’t fade away, drink one!

Pours a jet black with no head what so ever. Light has no chance in hell passing through this one. A little carbonation in the glass. Aroma is burned with strong hints of chocolate. taste is on the low with hints of roasted malts, caramel, and wood. Coffee bitterness aftertaste. Nice try but not the best.

Thin black pour with a tight but tall light beige head leaving ample lacing. Roasted malts, dark chocolates and pine dominate the nose. Dark chocolate meets pine flavor, didn't get much of the advertised citrus but the cocoa/pine blend works with this one. Light earthy pine hops bitter in the end. Rich and roasty, tastes like a hopped-up porter. Nice effort, worth a try.

Amazing pour producing a thick, frothy khaki colored head on top of a dark brown body leaving a thick coating of lacing. Heavy roasted and chocolate malts throughout coupled with flowery hops. Medium bodied with a firm bitterness. Hints of heavy cream, bitter coffee and a hoppy aftertaste. Two month old bottle and I didn't get as much citrusy hop flavor/aroma as expected, pleased by the roasty malt profile though. I really like the Fade To Black series so far.

The beer pours dark black with an inch tan creamy head. Head retention is good, and there's a lot of lacing, too. The brew smells like roasted malt, pine and citrusy hops, burnt/charred malt and a bit of coffee. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's the addition of some bittersweet chocolate. With the flavor and the aroma the balance between the hops and toasted malts goes back and forth,a really nice balance between everything. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy and smooth, with a good amount of carbonation. I think it's a good overall brew, a nice addition to the Fade To Black Series.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark black with a smallish tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is a bit subdued - heavily roasted chocolate malts and some piney hops.

The flavor is roasted chocolate malts with a good sized resiny, piney hop finish and some char in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

    Overall, an OK black IPA.
