Samuel Adams Merry Mischief Gingerbread Stout

Pours deep black with a thin ring of a tan head. Ginger spiced, as expected and molasses, orange, roasted malts - a gingerbread cookie in a glass. A little sweeter that I would prefer and a syrupiness on the pallette. Best as it warms a bit.

The aroma is of clove and malt in the glass but like gingerbread in the bottle. When you first take the cap off the bottle. Pours solid black with no foam head. The taste will make you think it's Christmas because of all the spices. Smooth with no bitterness !

Pours a rich coffee brown with a thick and rather persistent dark tan head. Roast malt aroma has definite spicy notes - ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg - plus hints of coffee and molasses. Flavor is truly distinctive, almost like drinking a gingerbread house with a side of molasses-infused coffee. It is rather sweet, but not cloying, and wickedly delicious. Heavy mouthfeel has some good fizz to it, and leaves a sweet and spicy finish that has a sneaky hop-bitter kick as it heads downstairs. Drink this and be merry, whatever holiday you celebrate!

Purchased at Albertsons in Vegas, and now goes under the name "Merry Maker". Pours a real dark brown colour with a frothy beige head, good retention and lots of soapy lacing. Beautiful spices in the nose, with a good gingerbread replica, light cinnamon and some dark fruit notes. Creamy mouthfeel, but on the wet-side with a body that is not as heavy as I expected. Many dark fruits in the taste with molasses. The spices are not as dominant, but still present. Goes down very well, with the alcohol nicely hidden and hardly any warming. A great Christmas brew that works.

Black pour with a medium tan head. Right from the pour, this smells like a gingerbread cookie--this beer is loaded with ginger, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon spices. Same spices dominate the taste too. Enjoyable in small amounts--bottle was the perfect size to split between 4-5 people.

pours black with medium sized and medium brown head that reduced to a small cap with good retention. The aroma has a big spice aroma up front, cinnamon, clove, all spice. A light roast profile is present in the background but is dominated by the spices. The taste has a heavy spice up front with clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. A decent roast profile comes through that is more pronounced than the aroma suggested but the spice profile does dominate. A hint of chocolate comes through at times. The mouthfeel is medium body with a big chew and light carbonation. Must point out that Stouts and Porters are my least favorite styles.

Beer 7 of my 12 Beers of Christmas. Black pour, a touch syrupy, tight short tan head, nice lacing. Spiced and toasted aromas: light gingerbread, molasses, orange peel, roasted malts, a hint of cinnamon and clove. Taste is more pronounced as it warms of toasted malts, gingerbread and spices, dark molasses. Nice effort.

Picked this up to consume on Christmas Eve. This reminded me in many ways of Stone's 12.12.12 VE as well as my own homebrew which was a Christmas beer. Lots of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg combo in the aroma and it comes out smelling like Pepsi/Coke almost. The taste is more of a traditional stout, with strong roasty flavors, low-to-moderate sweetness, a little ginger and dates. A nice beer, but not one I'd look for again next year. SA needs to step it up a bit with this one.

A deep ebony blackness with a big frothy textured tan head rising robustly above. There's goot retention on the head. It settles eventually into a light film and big ringlet. Gingerbread damces out in the nose and on the palate. Sweet caramel malts hold it up. Full bodied nearly tarlike. It actually works in it's uniqueness.

As advertised, though this brew ends up a little heavier on the gingerbread than the stout, even at 9%! On one hand, it covers the abv expertly, but it needs a little more roast and mocha goin on to be taken seriously as an imperial stout. Glad to have tried it but itll be one a year at most.
