Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like "probably the best in the world," "it works every time," etc.? This American Barleywine says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

March 2015: 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.3%. Hazy brown colour, large to moderate off-white head. Aroma of oak, malts and raisins / other dark dried fruits. The flavour is sweet, malty and oaky, with dark dried fruits galore, immediately followed by distinct hops, ending in a solid and rather sharp bitterness that stays with you through the long aftertaste. Hints of anise and liquorice too. A very tasty American barleywine.

this beer is pretty intense with a load of caramel malts and a sweet citric hop bite as well as a little alcohol. that said, it is quite enjoyable when searching for a deep, dark, in your face sipper. a little pricey, but damn good.

Aroma has firm woody and spicy tones with an undercurrent of caramel. Pours a clear dark chocolaty brown with a fairly thick tan head. Flavor is - whoa, the alcohol bite means it is not for the faint of heart! Aside from that is has rather subdued notes of caramel, cloves and woody hops plus a hint of honey. Syrupy texture is smooth and does not seem to have a lot of fizz. If you like barleywines, this may be up your alley.
