A resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler oud bruin is a crafty concoction, comprised of several generations of brown ales, barrel aged and blended. Wild yeasts, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces meddle with the brew for over 18 months creating complexity and depth of flavor. Hints of malty sweet chocolate and vanilla toy with a hauntingly sour finish. Intricate yet balanced, The Meddler will leave you craving more of the mysterious brew.

Odell does sours well. This is a Prototypical Oud bruin really. Malty, sweet, lots of depth and a healthy does of sour and tart flavor and aroma. Lacto smooths this bad boy out nicely. A fairy aggressive but really tasty sour.

Sampled on 10/1/2012 at Odells Brewery. This wild ale pours a very murky dark brown color. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet and tart. A full bodied sour/wild ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, tart and a little funky. The hops are herbal. Nice tartness, its tart but the sweetness still shines through. Hints of wood and some funk. Not over the top, but it definitely has the Flemish Brown/red aspect to it. Some brown sugar at the finish. Very nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is lingering tartness.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber brown with a medium creamy tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel and candy fruit with a sour twang. It's a little subdued.

The flavor is sweet caramel malts and fruit with a big sour (candy apple) twang. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice lacto sour. This is much more intense and more sour than the first bottle I had.
