Jacob Spears, our 6th Great Grand Uncle, is credited as the first distiller to label his whiskey "Bourbon." He built his distillery in Bourbon County, Kentucky in 1790 - 203 years before began brewing. While obviously a bit too late to produce Uncle Jacob’s wash, we’ve instead created something far more complex. In his honor, we present this robust, silky smooth, full-bodied and altogether extremely American rendition of an Imperial Stout aged for 6 months in the very finest bourbon barrels. This explains a lot about our penchant for big brews! It’s in our blood! Brewed with Rocky Mountain Water, Malter Barley, Flaked Oats, Hops and Yeast.

Pours coffee brown with a nice tan head. Aroma offers coffee, sweet, roast malt, chocolate and caramel tones. Flavor presents caramel, sweet toasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes. Mouthfeel features firm body and peppy fizz. Love your uncle - I should because I have one in North Carolina!

12 oz bottle, bottled on 2/4/2014. Pours dark brown black with a smallish creamy brown head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate malts, grains, dark fruit, bourbon and a little black licorice. A lot going on!

The flavor is sweet sugary chocolate malts, roasted grain, dark fruits and some hot bourbon alcohol with a little black licorice and a bitter roast alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall, nice stout with a lot going on. A bit sweet and hot on the alcohol for me, but not as hot as remembered (maybe the 2 years aging helped). Becomes a bit harsh and cloying as it warms.

Boom. What a Stout! Bottle from @bobcoozy/KevinLA from Colo. Heavy black with a slight reddish tinge, tight tan cap, bits of lacing, motor oil viscosity. Deep roasted malts, salted caramel, Bourbon notes, vanilla, dark chocolates, more rich roastedness, earthy booziness. Absolutely exquisite Stout. ______________________________________________________________ Actually my review should read just like Suds'.

Wow - likely the best 15+% beer I've ever had or will have. Sweet from both the barreling and the abv, but not overly so. And not hot. I'm a fan of Mephistopheles, but this stout is in a whole nother class. Ridiculously good.
