Pours a real dark brown colour with hardly any highlights. Great big beige head, frothy, long lasting and full of lacing. Aromas of chocolate and cocoa at first. Then, it makes room for the roasted malts, which also gives out apples and yeast. The taste is mixed between the roasted malts, burnt grains and the notes of oranges which are quite mild in the finish. Even hints of liquorice. I quite like this brew. Nothing out of this world, but was expecting a boring mild stout.

Pours a fairly good size frothy brownish head and has an amber appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, yeast and coffee. Flavours are mostly roasted malts, strong yeasty and coffee malt notes, hints of toffee and faint chocolatey hints. A bit of mocha as well. Pretty good retention. Average carbonation. Goes down pretty well. Slick and oily sensation. A good example of a Belgian stout from a micro brewery.

On tap @ Imbibe – puts a deep brown-black viscous ale in the glass…2 finger tight pored mocha colored cap lasts fairly well. Aroma is somewhat demure with roasty coffee-cocoa tones some faint fruit (citrus), a wee bit of funky Belgian yeast earthiness and some grassy hopping. Medium body, silky mouth feel. Flavours mostly standard stout roastiness – cocoa, coffee, some sweetness hops balance- wet finish with the slightest hint of diacetyl at the end. I didn’t get te spices or citrus peel and the diacetyl was not strong but was there – all in all it needs work.

On tap at C’est What. Very dark brown pour with a dense white head that lasts till the end but leaves no lacing. Roasted malt aroma. Flavour is roasted malt ,coffee, chocolate. Belgium yeast becomes more prominent as the beer goes down. Smooth medium mouthfeel. Not bad overall

The beer poured a hazed murky brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma was mild yeast, roasted malt, and coffee. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is yeast heavy with the roasted malt and coffee notes muted in the background. Wasn't a fan.

Tried this beer on June 28 2012 at Beerstock 3 at pourhouse 50 in Mississauga. I'm impressed with the spearhead beers, and this one is very good. I'ts dark, almost black with a dry finish, not much head or lacing on the glass though. I enjoyed it a lot. keep up the good work, spearhead.
