Deep, rich and malty with hints of chocolate and coffee. It's what espresso would be if it had the gumption to be beer. We use two different hop additions, specially selected crystal malts, roasted barley and oatmeal to give it a soft and silky mouth feel. Makes a great dessert or meal.

Big sweet roasty aroma and flavor. Pretty well balanced by ample bitterness, but in the end still a sweet beer with chocolate, coffee, a little smoke & dark fruit. Smooth and enjoyable.

Strong, smoky aroma has tones of chocolate and caramel and just a hint of roast coffee. It pours a rich, opaque coffee brown with a very thick, mostly fine-bubbled, rather persistent tan head. Flavor has a firm burnt wood overtone and caramel, semi-sweet chocolate and roast coffee notes, plus just a hint of licorice. Texture is a bit on the thin side for a stout, but still has a good fizz to it and leaves a smoky, slightly sweet finish. I look forward to trying more Ipswich offerings.

Pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick, tan head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet yet bitter and roasty with a hint of cream. Medium to full bodied, slightly watery and smooth.

08.11.04 12oz bottle. Totally black, big brown head, thick lace. Seriously roasty, malty, and smokey aromas. Some nut, too. Thick, rich body. Big presence of roasy malts. Bitting on finish. Coffee flavors on the afterthought/aftertaste. Coffee acidity on finish as well, a pleasant bite! Quite delicious brew, a great find.

The head was small, but was that hot chocolate foam color and consistency that just drives me wild. Body was appropriately dark, even with only two sips left in the glass, it remained opaque except at the edges. Sweet, roasty aroma. A bit of burned marshmallows in the flavor. Hops noticeable but not overbearing, but give the beer a slight metallic flavor.

I had the Ipswich Oatmeal Stout at their Ale House in Newton, MA. It poured a dark, black body with a small tan head. It had a flavorful tasted of roasted coffee, chocolate. I thought this was a solid stout

Light bodied brew. No real dominant flavor. A little watery. Average at best.

Pours dark, dark brown, almost black with a thin dark tan head. Aroma is smoky coffee, roasted chocolate, and burnt caramel. Flavor starts with some nice sweetness, coffee and caramel, then turns burnt, bitter, roasted, like charred chocolate and coffee. Nice smoky flavors throughout, very nice beer. This is one of my favorite styles, and Ipswich did a nice job with it, definitely worth a try.
