http://beernews.org/2011/10/dundee-english-style-ale-nut-brown-ale-debut-in-new-variety-pack/ Press Release: (Rochester, NY) – This fall, craft beer drinkers have two new brews to discover, courtesy of Dundee Ales & Lagers. Dundee English-Style Ale and Nut Brown Ale are making their debut in the latest Dundee variety pack, available in stores now. Dundee English-Style Ale, reminiscent of a handmade tavern beer, combines pale and caramel malts with Columbus and Cascade hops for a malty, slightly sweet finish. Dundee Nut Brown Ale is brewed in the traditional Yorkshire square fermentation style, with caramel and chocolatemalts and Willamette hops, producing a round-bodied ale similar to those found in Northern England. “Both English-Style Ale and Nut Brown Ale will remind craft beer drinkers of traditional tavern brews, and each has a unique flavor profile” said lead Dundee Brewer Jim McDermott. “English-Style Ale is 5.1 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and rates 17 on the International Bittering Units (IBU) scale, making it easy to drink with a classic, clean taste. The Nut Brown Ale has a 5.3 percent ABV and rates a 20 on the IBU scale. Beer drinkers will enjoy its rich taste and hints of natural hazelnut flavor.” Making their debut with the new brews are two new Dundee label characters—a barmaid on the English-Style Ale and a sophisticated squirrel on the Nut Brown Ale. “Dundee approaches craft beer in a fun, drinkable and entertaining way, which is embodied by the characters on our beer labels,” said Lisa Texido, brand manager, Dundee Ales & Lagers

Strong, malty aroma has a roast undertone. Pours a typical clear light amber with a fairly thick and frothy eggshell head. Malty flavor has just a hint of bread, nothing special but still pleasing. Firm, smooth texture rolls a nice persistent tingle over the tongue. A pleasant brew to drink, good for a party or with a meal.

Pours a dark golden color. Smell has some malts and hops. Taste is well balanced malts and hops, easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Pours a golden color with a light haze and a billowy white head which fades fast to give a light amount of lacing. The aromas are relatively light, but consist of a bread and caramel. The taste has a malty flavor with a little bit of caramel sweetness is present up front and intensifies as the flavor moves toward the middle. This flavor remains mild and mixes with the bread and a very light citrus flavor at the end which bring the taste to its finish. The mouthfeel is medium in body with a average level of carbonation. This was the best of the sample pack.

Nice golden body with a touch of orange. The head is thin, mostly ringed around the edge, some occasional spotted lace is left. Aroma is faint bready malts with a touch of malt vinegar. Flavor follows the aroma, the flavors tere are ok, just hard to find. Overall it a nice enough beer, i think the brewers got what they were aiming for.

DOH......RJA beat me to the punch by one day adding this beer. I found this a quite drinkable EPA. Has that "New England" feel that I always refer to....like the Shipyards, Belfast's, some Harpoons, few Sammy's etc. What I like is the balance and decent mouthfeel. Not the fullest of flavors, but what is there is tasty and works. This style also pair well with a lot of foods....thus is one of my "dinner beers". This could be one of the Dundee's I like best.

A deep golden colored beer with a big frothy textured, white head. Has some hang time. Settles into a thin ringlet. The nose is faint, breadiness. The taste bolder and in that gets interesting. Breadiness, some very light citric tartness. Medium bodied with creaminess.
