We’ve been crafting a secret brew for the last few weeks and we’re happy to share it with you just in time for the holidays. We’re excited to announce the release of our brand new Welly Mammoth Winter Stout available exclusively at our brewery retail store as part of our Welly One-Off Series. Welly Mammoth is a huge and complex winter stout with subtle hints of balsam fir and a refreshing peppermint finish. With a huge body and rich chocolate malt this full bodied stout embodies the majestic presence of this pre-historic beast. Brewed using balsam fir boughs and peppermint, this massive winter stout is black in appearance and is heavily fortified with 9% alc/vol . Welly Mammoth Winter Stout is sure to bring some warmth to fight off the deep chill of winter.

Can from the brewery: poured a clear dark mahogany color with a 2 finger sticky tan cap....light carbonation. Aroma is subtly complex - dark dried fruits, coffee, treacle, roasty, mint and cocoa. Flavor has a light sweetness under the roasty-minty-cocoa tones, bit of hoppiness and balsam tag team in the mid palate... dries out in the long roasty finish. The Mint and balsam flavors are not over stated and compliment this big stout quite well. I think the mint and balsam are compatible as stout flavoring and this brew adequately proves that. Mouth feels is silky and it has a smooth character, very easy to drink. If it has a fault it’s that it needs a bit of body (maybe some toasted oats to bulk it up)...but that’s just personal preference. All in all a very well carried off brew. Wish there was more available in caged cork bottles ....it would be interesting to see what a few months in the cellar would do to it.
