DuClaw H.E.R.O. Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter

I may be rating this a bit higher on flavor...as I love anything with peanut butter. The base porter behind the peanut butter has some good chocolate to it as well, but slightly rusty/metallic. Balance could be better, otherwise has some good potential. Glad I tried though, as I was sold on "peanut butter" and the label.

A jet black colored beer with a big light brown frothy textured head rising above. There's decent hang time on the head. A thick low lying film-ringlet are left. The profile is the most negative aspect of this ale. It seems so out of place. The chocolate adds to a full bodied drink.

Had as Sweet Baby Jesus! Pours opaque sable with a thin buff head. Aroma has strong roast malt and coffee notes. Flavor teases with coffee, caramel and subtle molasses notes. Texture is on the thin side, tho, and not fizzy. Still, a sweet brew.

Purchased a 6-pack in Baltimore on my trip to see Maryland Deathfest. Pours a dark copper colour with a frothy beige head, good retention and decent foamy lacing. The peanut butter part is really in the smell, with hints of chocolate and dark fruits in the background. The nuttiness is a little milder in the taste with the dark fruit of the porter smoothly sailing. The chocolate malt lingers. Did not feel much of the nuts in the first few bottles, but this last one brought home really is present. I now have much respect for this brew. Congrats !

I had this beer at Mac & Bob's in Salem, VA. This beer wasn't bad. It certainly lived up to its name - it tasted like chocolate and peanut butter for sure. The problem is that it tasted more like a Reese's than real peanut butter. The flavor was a tad on the sugary end (not unexpected) and artificial. That being said, it was indeed tasty and was dark and semi-heavy.

"Sweet Baby Jesus!" on my label as well. Midnight black pour, viscous, tight short tan head, some lacing. HUGE roasted malt, chocolate and peanut butter aromas and flavors, especially chocolate, not overly sweet although the cocoa lingers more than anything else. Epically tasty!

Bottled as "Sweet Baby Jesus!" Color is light-impenetrable coffee. No head other than a thin ring of foam. No beating around the bush, it smells like chocolate and peanut without being overly sweet and cloying. The flavor is similar: the sweetness is nicely balanced with bitter to prevent it from becoming candyish. The chocolate highlighted with char, the peanut deep roasted. I have a deep and abiding distaste for Reese's cups, and I love this. Very more-ish. I definitely plan to revisit this one. Thin feel, carbonation is too big, but it's probably good that a flavor like this comes with a clean and wet presentation.

Awesome. Pours pitch black, if there was any head it is gone now. The aroma is pretty amazing, but then there is the flavor. Like drinking a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. This is great, wish I'd bought more!

I had this as 'Sweet Baby Jesus!' - and am fairly certain this is the same beer. Deep brown pour with minimal head and no lacing, but enticing aromas of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. This is thin bodied and easy to drink. The flavors are not quite as solid as the aroma, but chocolate and peanut butter are noticeable and the dominant flavors. I wonder if the recipe has changed - I enjoyed this quite a bit. I've had a few chocolate peanut butter beers over the past few years and this is a solid crack a a unique brew.

Not a memorable offering, in fact I decided it was best not to finish the glass. Fizzy, thin and awkward. Couldn't pull out any definitive peanut butter and very little chocolate. Kind of like the cheap candies that make their way to the shelves during the holidays.
