A lagered ale, Ol'Woody is a traditional Dusseldorf Alt, the quintessential session beer. Good and bitter, this lagered ale designed after the beers from the city of Dusseldorf in Germany's Rheinland, comes in at about 40 IBU's, but it's balanced with a rich blend of German Dark Munich and Pilsner Malts to give it an easy drinking body. This is most definitely our session ale.

Sampled at the Ottawa National Capital Craft Beer Week with Chopz. Has mild malty aromas, thick creamy head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Flavours of bready and toasty malts as well as citrus and herbal hops. Not bad. Creamy mouthfeel and sensation. Good stuff.

Enjoyed at the National Capital Craft Beer Week with PaleAleRider. Pours a clean copper colour with a white head. Grainy malt nose with fresh hops that give out fruity notes. Nice slight dry finish. Again, fruity and cereal malt flavours. A nice grainy pale ale and good for this style.

On tap @ Gig’s - taps a lightly hazed copper-orange with a puffy lasting off white cap. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is robust with Munich red malts - toasty and noble hopping, some light fruitiness. Medium bodied creamy mouth feel, smooth malt accented character. Flavor is fairly well balanced between toasty-bready malts and herbal woody hops - long dry bittersweet nutty malty finish with a hop bite. If I closed my eyes I’d think I was drinking a fresh Dusseldorf Alt. I enjoy this lagered amber ale and it is probably the best Albier we have had in this market since the Duckstein supply dried up.

I tried this beer on December 16, 2011 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a beautiful translucent red with a thin tan coloured ring for a head. The aroma consisted of some sweet malt, citrus hints, and grains. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was a decent balkance between the sweetness of the malt, and the mild grapefruity tasting hops. The hoppiest altbier I've ever had.
